ANGLETON, Texas (BN24) — Two children were killed and two others remain in critical condition following a shooting Saturday at a truck stop near Angleton, a small city about 45 miles south of Houston. Authorities say all individuals believed to have been involved in the incident have been detained, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Deputies with the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire at the truck stop shortly before noon. Upon arrival, they discovered four children suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
A 4-year-old and a 13-year-old were pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders provided immediate aid to two surviving children, ages 8 and 9, before they were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital in critical condition. As of Sunday morning, both remain under intensive care.
Authorities have not released the names or genders of the victims, and their relationships to each other or to any detained individuals have not yet been confirmed. Officials have also not disclosed the number of suspects or any specific charges filed at this time.
Investigators are actively working to piece together the sequence of events that led to the shooting, which occurred in broad daylight at a public location frequented by travelers and long-haul truck drivers. The truck stop, located off Highway 288, was closed for several hours as crime scene units combed the area for ballistic evidence, surveillance footage, and witness accounts.
In a statement released late Saturday, the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged the deep emotional impact of the incident.
“While details are still developing, the loss of two children in such a manner is a tragedy,” the sheriff’s office said. “Our thoughts are with the family and everyone affected as we continue to learn more about this heartbreaking situation.”
The sheriff’s office confirmed that all individuals believed to be connected to the shooting have been taken into custody. Officials reassured the public that the situation appears to be isolated and that no further danger is present in the community.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the shooting was domestic-related or whether the victims and suspects knew each other. As the investigation continues, law enforcement is urging any potential witnesses to come forward and share information that could aid in understanding the motive behind the violence.
“This case remains a top priority,” the statement continued. “We will not stop until we fully understand what happened and why.”
The fatal shooting comes at a time when communities across the U.S. are grappling with the growing toll of gun violence, particularly incidents involving children. Texas, in particular, has seen multiple high-profile shootings in recent years, prompting renewed debates over firearm access and mental health support.
Residents have expressed grief and disbelief at the news. Community leaders and school officials in the Angleton area are expected to issue statements and offer support to grieving families in the coming days.
The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office has not yet indicated when additional details, such as suspect identities or a potential timeline of events, will be made public.
The investigation is ongoing.
