At least 21 babies were born on Christmas Day at Iganga Main Hospital, Uganda, setting a new record for deliveries at the facility. This marks a significant increase from last year, when 15 babies were born on the same day.

Midwives at the hospital worked through the holiday to bring new life into the world, with 16 of the babies being boys. Two sets of twins were also born. Three of the mothers required caesarean sections, while the remaining deliveries were natural births.
Amina Mirembe, one of the midwives on duty, confirmed that 15 of the mothers were discharged on Christmas Day after successful deliveries.
Siida Bilibawa, another midwife, noted that last year’s total of 15 babies was surpassed this year by six, marking a record high in recent years.
Among the new mothers was Prossy Nabirye, who gave birth to her second baby boy at 3:10 a.m. He weighed 3.8 kg and was described by Nabirye as “the best Christmas present” she could have asked for.
