Tragedy struck Chicago over Memorial Day weekend when a 5-year-old girl, identified by family members as Reign Ware, was fatally shot while sitting in a parked car next to her father. The heartbreaking incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 26, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Reign’s mother, Raven Adams, spoke to Fox 32 about the devastating loss, describing her daughter as someone who “brought life to our life, to outsiders’ lives, to everybody that met her.” She added, “She was a real sweet kid.”

According to relatives, Reign and her father were unharmed in the shooting, while an unknown 24-year-old man was wounded, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times. Adams shared with the outlet that her family was leaving a party when the shooting took place, believing they were at “the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Police have not made any arrests in connection with the shooting, as per ABC 7 Chicago. A witness told the outlet that a group of individuals jumped out of a car and opened fire on people standing outside, ambushing them. Fox 32 reports that police believe the shots were fired from a Jeep Cherokee.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, Reign’s mother is pleading with those responsible to turn themselves in. “I just want justice for my baby,” Adams told the Chicago Sun-Times. “The violence just has to stop. How long is this going to go on? Until everybody kills everybody? Just let people live.”
