The highly anticipated BET Awards are set to return this Sunday night, promising a star-studded lineup of performances and accolades at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Hosted for the third time by Oscar-nominated actor Taraji P. Henson, the event will kick off with a dynamic performance by Megan Thee Stallion, just days after the release of her latest album.
Among the standout performers scheduled for the evening are Lauryn Hill, Childish Gambino, and Will Smith, who will debut a new song. Smith, a Grammy and Oscar winner, continues to reclaim the spotlight following the notorious Oscars incident two years ago, bolstered by the success of his recent endeavors, including the film “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.”
Adding to the musical diversity, artists such as Ice Spice, Tyla, Chlöe, Coco Jones, Keke Palmer, Marsha Ambrosius, Summer Walker, GloRilla, Latto, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey, and Victoria Monét will also take the stage. Country musician Tanner Adell will showcase his talent on the BET Amplified stage.
The awards ceremony will be broadcast live starting at 8 p.m. Eastern on BET, with simultaneous broadcasts on Comedy Central, Logo, MTV, MTV2, Pop, TV Land, Nickelodeon at Nite, and VH1. Leading the nominations is Drake, nominated for Album of the Year for his eighth studio album “For All the Dogs” and recognized for his collaboration with J. Cole on the music video “First Person Shooter.”
Nicki Minaj follows closely with six nominations, including Album of the Year for her much-anticipated release “Pink Friday 2.” Notable contenders with multiple nominations include J. Cole, Sexyy Red, SZA, and Victoria Monét, each receiving five nods, while Usher, Beyoncé, and Doja Cat are among those with four nominations each.
Usher, an eight-time Grammy winner, will receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his monumental contributions to music. Recently concluding a successful Las Vegas residency and releasing his first solo album in eight years, Usher is set to embark on a nationwide tour titled “Past Present Future” starting in August.
The BET Awards 2024 will not only celebrate musical excellence but also feature a diverse lineup of presenters including Andra Day, Colman Domingo, DC Young Fly, Devale Ellis, Jay Ellis, Jessica Betts, Ms. Pat, Niecy Nash-Betts, and Saucy Santana. This event promises to be a spectacular showcase of talent and achievement in the music industry.
