Suspected Serial Killer Arrested in Kenya After Discovery of Multiple Bodies at Quarry

Nairobi, Kenya, July 2024 – A suspected serial killer has been arrested in Kenya following the grim discovery of several bodies at a quarry in Nairobi. Police announced on Monday that the man had confessed to killing 42 women, including his wife.

Police identified the suspect as Collins Jumasi, a 33-year-old man living near the quarry in Mukuru, a neighborhood in the southern part of the capital. He was arrested early on Monday morning. Acting head of police, Douglas Kanja Kircho, confirmed that nine bodies had been recovered from the quarry so far.

“It is crystal clear that we are dealing with a serial killer, a psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for human life,” said Amin Mohamed, the head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations. Mohamed added that Jumasi had confessed to luring and killing 42 women and dumping their remains at the quarry.

The murders stretch back to 2022, starting with Jumasi’s wife, with the most recent killing on July 11, Mohamed revealed in a televised statement. Police searching Jumasi’s home discovered several mobile phones, identity cards, a machete believed to have been used to dismember the victims, industrial rubber gloves, rolls of sellotape, and a dozen nylon sacks similar to those in which the victims were found.

The discovery has sparked outrage among the local community, many of whom have been angered by rumors linking the bodies to alleged abductions of young protesters by security forces during recent unrest. Crowds gathered at the quarry over the weekend, with some engaging in violent clashes with police.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm, stating that there is no indication that the remains are connected to any recent political events. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying all the victims and understanding the full scope of Jumasi’s crimes.
