2 Killed in Small Plane Crash Shortly After Takeoff from Long Island Airport

LONG ISLAND, New York – Authorities report that two individuals were killed when a small plane crashed shortly after takeoff on New York’s Long Island.

The single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza A36 departed from MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Monday. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot attempted to return to the runway, but the aircraft crashed, according to a news release from the Suffolk County police.

Both the pilot and the passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed that the two men were the only occupants of the plane. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are currently investigating the incident.
