CAPE TOWN, South Africa – Zintle Sakasius Jonase, a 21-year-old woman, was raped and murdered by unknown assailants in Cape Town, South Africa.
Advocacy group Women For Change announced in a statement on Monday, July 22, 2024, that Zintle’s half-naked body was found in mud puddles in Kraaifontein on July 17. The deceased was last seen walking through Bloekombos the evening before her murder.
Community leader Gavin Riddles reported that Zintle had been stabbed, with her eyes swollen shut. “Zintle’s half-naked body was discovered in a puddle of water between houses at a new housing development in Bloekombos by churchgoers. It is alleged that Zintle was raped before she was murdered,” stated Women For Change.
“We are heartbroken over the loss of such a beautiful soul. Fly high, Sister,” Riddles added. Zintle was laid to rest on Saturday, July 20. He also mentioned that this is the second murder in the community. “The previous murder also took place in the dark of night. People are now living in fear, and we are asking authorities to intervene even if they can just install temporary street lights,” he said.
Residents are urging the police to increase patrols and asking authorities to install proper lighting to help prevent further incidents. People are fearing leaving their homes in the morning or at night; crime has become rife. We need authorities to make the area safe,” Riddles emphasized.
