Sodexo Live!, the company responsible for providing meals to thousands of athletes in the Paris Olympic Village, has strongly denied accusations of serving “wormy fish,” labeling the claims as unsubstantiated. The controversy arose after British swimmer Adam Peaty made comments to a newspaper criticizing the food selection and quality in the Olympic Village.
Peaty’s allegations included reports from fellow athletes who claimed to have found “worms in the fish.” However, no photographic evidence was provided to support these serious accusations. When approached by TMZ Sports, Sodexo Live! responded decisively to the allegations.
“There has been zero proof of the truthfulness of this statement, which obviously raises a rather serious allegation,” the company stated. They further added that Team Great Britain had confirmed they hadn’t received any complaints about the food served to their athletes.
The Olympic Committee also weighed in on the controversy, emphasizing the extensive planning that went into the meal offerings. “The 550 dishes on offer in the Dining Hall were developed together with the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and the IOC over a period of more than a year,” they said. The committee assured that they take athlete feedback very seriously and are ready to make any necessary adjustments to the food service.
Sodexo Live!, which was named an official partner of the 2024 Olympics in March 2022, is responsible for preparing approximately 40,000 meals daily for the 15,000 athletes participating in both the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. Their services also extend to providing food for fans at competition sites.
The company’s robust defense and the lack of photographic evidence have led many to question the validity of Peaty’s claims. The phrase “photo, or it didn’t happen” seems to encapsulate the sentiment surrounding this controversy.
