US Embassy in Kampala Issues Terror Alert, Ugandan Police Urge Vigilance-NP

The United States Embassy in Kampala has issued a security alert warning American citizens of an increased risk of terrorist attacks in the Ugandan capital. The advisory, based on unconfirmed reports, urges U.S. nationals to exercise heightened caution, particularly in public areas such as shopping malls, schools, and locations frequented by tourists.

In response to the alert, Ugandan police have called for increased vigilance among the general public. Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke emphasized the seriousness with which security forces are treating the potential threats.

“We cannot take these threats for granted,” Rusoke stated. “We are urging the public to remain cautious, particularly in areas that attract large crowds.” He assured the public that security forces are on high alert and prepared to respond to any potential threats.

The police have urged citizens to take responsibility for their safety, especially in securing private properties. They have also called for community cooperation, encouraging residents to report any suspicious activities.

The U.S. Embassy’s alert recommends that American citizens in Uganda keep a low profile, remain aware of their surroundings, and enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive timely updates and assistance in case of an emergency. While specific details about the nature of the threat have not been released, the Embassy emphasizes the importance of remaining vigilant.

Although there is no official confirmation of an imminent attack, the alert reflects ongoing security concerns in the region. The Ugandan police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors in Kampala, stressing that community awareness and participation are key to preventing any incidents.

As the situation develops, both local authorities and the U.S. Embassy continue to monitor potential threats closely. Residents and visitors in Kampala are advised to stay informed through official channels and follow any additional security guidance that may be issued.
