A catastrophic explosion at a petrol station in Grozny, the capital of Russia’s Chechen Republic, has resulted in at least four deaths, including two children. The blast, which occurred less than a mile from the palace of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, was powerful enough to trigger earthquake-like tremors and hurl a fuel tanker approximately 1,000 feet.
Eyewitness accounts and video footage reveal a massive fireball erupting from the Leader filling station, followed by a fuel tank being propelled towards a nearby high-rise building. Local residents reported ground-shaking vibrations reminiscent of an earthquake.
The incident is believed to have started with one tanker exploding, which then launched a second tanker into a crowd of onlookers. The flying debris is thought to have caused the fatalities, including the two children.
Ramzan Kadyrov, often described as Putin’s “attack dog” warlord, announced he had taken “personal control” of the crisis. He stated, “A gas tanker exploded at a petrol station in Grozny. As of this moment, four people, including two children, have died.”
Russian authorities have launched an investigation into the explosion, though it remains unclear whether it was an act of sabotage or an accident. The incident occurs against a backdrop of numerous unexplained explosions and fires across Russia since the start of the Ukraine conflict.
This explosion also comes amid reports of internal power struggles within Putin’s regime. Kadyrov recently claimed that three Russian politicians, including a millionaire senator, were plotting to assassinate him, highlighting the complex and often violent nature of Russian politics.
