A Russian passenger plane was evacuated at Turkey’s Antalya airport Sunday after its left engine caught fire during landing, with all 91 people aboard escaping safely, Turkish officials reported.
The Azimuth Airlines flight from the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi experienced the engine fire while touching down at the Mediterranean coastal airport, according to airport official Suat Seyitoglu. Emergency crews quickly extinguished the blaze.
“All 87 passengers and four crew members were safely evacuated,” Seyitoglu told Turkey’s Anadolou state news agency. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The emergency response highlighted the growing importance of Antalya airport as a hub for Russian travelers amid ongoing international flight restrictions affecting Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.
