British Woman and fiancé Found Dead in Vietnamese Villa

Date:

A British woman and her South African fiancé were found dead in a holiday villa in Hoi An, a coastal city in central Vietnam, authorities confirmed.

Greta Marie Otteson, 33, was discovered on a bed in a first-floor room at the villa on Dec. 26 around 11:18 a.m. local time (0418 GMT), police said Monday. Els Arno Quinton, 36, was found in another room of the villa, reportedly locked from the inside.

The UK Foreign Office confirmed it is in contact with local authorities and providing support to Otteson’s family. Otteson worked as a social media manager, and Quinton was a musician and livestreamer.

The couple announced their engagement in a video posted on Instagram by videography company Red Eye Studios on Dec. 11. They had registered as long-term temporary residents at the Hoa Chuong villa in the Cam Thanh commune since last summer, according to officials.

Preliminary police inspections found no signs of external injuries or burglary. Local media reported that several empty wine bottles were discovered at the scene. The investigation into the cause of death is ongoing.

“We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Vietnam and are in contact with the local authorities,” a UK Foreign Office spokesperson said.
