Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro’s appearance on the daytime talk show “The View” took a controversial turn when he launched into an expletive-filled tirade against former President Donald Trump. The show’s control booth had to work overtime to censor the actor’s NSFW language during the live broadcast.
De Niro, known for his strong dislike of Trump, doubled down on his sentiments during Tuesday’s episode. He expressed his bewilderment at the fact that more people aren’t taking Trump’s political ambitions seriously, especially considering the businessman’s lead in several presidential polls ahead of the November election.
The actor warned that anyone who doesn’t believe Trump will follow through on his campaign promises if re-elected is fooling themselves. As he began to express his thoughts on how people’s lives would not improve under a Trump presidency, De Niro prefaced his statement with “excuse my French” before his audio was completely cut out by the show’s censors.
The camera quickly panned away from De Niro to prevent viewers at home from deciphering his swear-filled sentiment. However, the actor persisted, accusing Trump of wanting to do “the worst that he could possibly do to show this country.” Once again, the broadcast bleeped out his words, but not before the camera caught De Niro saying that Trump’s slogan should be “F\*\*\* America.”
This incident is just the latest in a long line of public critiques De Niro has directed at the former president. In 2016, the actor famously stated that he wanted to punch Trump in the face. He also blasted Trump during a speech at the 2018 Tony Awards and even expressed a desire for bags of excrement to be thrown at the then-president.
Trump eventually responded to De Niro’s attacks on Twitter, labeling the actor as “a very Low IQ individual,” making it clear that the two are far from friends.
Given Trump’s history of engaging in public feuds, it’s likely that he will have something to say about De Niro’s latest remarks on “The View.”
The heated exchange on the talk show highlights the ongoing political divide in the United States and the strong emotions that the upcoming presidential election continues to evoke. As the race for the White House intensifies, it’s expected that more high-profile figures, like Robert De Niro, will voice their opinions and criticisms of the candidates vying for the nation’s highest office.
