In a shocking turn of events, Acieiona McEwan, the mother of 13-week-old Traveon Jr, defended Traveon Hughes Sr, 20, the man convicted of murdering their infant son by shoving a baby wipe down his throat. The incident, which occurred in June 2022, left the presiding judge stunned by McEwan’s remarks during Hughes’ sentencing.
Hughes, who pleaded his innocence throughout the trial, was found guilty of murder, involuntary manslaughter, and child endangerment. Prosecutors argued that he intentionally suffocated the baby to stop him from crying. However, McEwan took to the stand to condemn the court’s decision, warning that “God gets the last word” and reportedly blaming medical professionals for her son’s death.
The tragic event unfolded just two days after Hughes and McEwan, both 18 at the time, moved from Chicago to Cleveland.
