A frustrated shopper, Shelly Fleck, has taken to Facebook to warn others about the importance of checking their receipts after allegedly being overcharged at both Walmart and Sam’s Club. Fleck shared her story, complete with receipts, as a cautionary tale for fellow consumers.
According to Fleck, her first encounter with overcharging occurred at Walmart a few months ago. She was shocked when her total came close to $400, nearly double what she had anticipated. Upon reviewing her receipt, Fleck alleges that Walmart had charged her $172 for a steam cleaner that she did not purchase.
“I did not buy one!” Fleck exclaimed in her post, expressing her frustration with the situation. Fortunately, she was able to obtain a refund for the erroneous charge, but her troubles did not end there.
Fleck’s next receipt error allegedly happened while shopping for clothes at Sam’s Club. Once again, her total was much higher than expected, coming in at $175. As she left the store, Fleck couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss, prompting her to scrutinize the receipt.
“I looked and everything that was on sale we got charged full price,” Fleck explained in her post. Determined to rectify the issue, she returned to the service desk with the receipt and photographic evidence of the sale signs.
After presenting her case, Fleck was refunded $32.46, as the employee corrected the prices of around a dozen clothing items that had been charged at full price instead of the nearly 25% discount advertised.
Fleck concluded her post by reiterating her warning to others: “So check your receipts.” She also questioned how many times people may have been overcharged without realizing it, suggesting that these incidents could be contributing to the billions in profits made by these retail giants.
“Wonder how many times people been overcharged and doesn’t check. No wonder they are making billions,” Fleck wrote, expressing her frustration with the situation.
The U.S. Sun reached out to both Walmart and Sam’s Club for comment on Fleck’s allegations but did not receive an immediate response.
Fleck’s story serves as a reminder for shoppers to remain vigilant and always review their receipts to ensure they are being charged correctly. By catching errors and addressing them with store employees, consumers can protect themselves from paying more than they should and help hold retailers accountable for their pricing practices.
