Fatal Incident: Person Struck by Orange Line Train at Jackson Square, Boston

An MBTA Orange Line train fatally struck a person who reportedly stumbled onto the tracks at Jackson Square station in Boston on Friday afternoon. MBTA Transit Police responded swiftly to the scene, confirming the individual’s death due to injuries sustained from the impact.

An oncoming train struck the adult victim after he fell into the right of way, according to a statement from a Transit Police spokesperson. The Transit Police Department is actively investigating the incident’s circumstances, with no suspicion of foul play at this time.

Following the incident, the MBTA promptly issued alerts via social media, notifying commuters of a “medical emergency” at Jackson Square and temporarily halting Orange Line service between North Station and Forest Hills. During the investigation, the MBTA deployed shuttle buses to replace train service, providing riders between North Station and Copley with alternative routes via the Green Line.

The MBTA, through its spokesperson, expressed heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family and loved ones. The organization reiterated its commitment to supporting the investigation and ensuring the safety of its passengers.

This unfortunate event emphasizes the importance of safety measures in transit systems and serves as a reminder of the risks associated with railway environments. As investigations continue, the MBTA remains dedicated to providing updates and assistance to affected commuters.
