Active Shooter Incident Reported Near Kentucky Highway, Multiple Victims

Kentucky authorities reported an “active shooter situation” on Saturday evening near Interstate-75 in London, Kentucky, with multiple shooting victims reported in traffic.

The incident began shortly before 6 p.m., approximately nine miles outside of London. Law enforcement was called to respond to reports of multiple vehicles being fired upon on Interstate 75 in Laurel County. According to various media accounts, the shots were reportedly coming from a wooded area or an overpass.

London Mayor Randall Weddle urged the public via Facebook to avoid the area around Exit 49 on I-75, advising, “Please avoid I-75 around Ext 49. Until further notice! Use alternative route do not be any where in that area.”

As of the latest reports, the suspect remains at large. Kentucky State Trooper Scottie Pennington stated on Facebook, “The suspect has not been caught at this time and we are urging people to stay inside.”

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear addressed the situation on social media platform X, saying, “Kentucky, we are aware of a shooting on I-75 in Laurel County. Please avoid the area. We will provide more details once they are available.” The governor also requested prayers for all those involved in the incident.

London, a small city of approximately 8,000 residents, is located about 100 miles northwest of the state capital, Frankfort. The ongoing situation has prompted a significant law enforcement response and raised concerns about public safety in the area.

Authorities are continuing their search for the suspect and are advising residents to remain vigilant and follow official instructions. The incident has caused significant disruption to traffic on I-75, a major north-south interstate highway.
