Music legend Celine Dion is speaking out about her ongoing battle with Stiff-Person Syndrome, nearly two years after her initial diagnosis. In a rare update about her health to Vogue France, Dion admits she’s frustrated that she hasn’t overcome the condition yet but remains determined to prove that nothing can hold her back.
“I have to learn to live with it now and stop questioning myself,” Dion says, recalling how she initially struggled with self-doubt and blamed herself for her condition. “At the beginning, I would ask myself, Why me? How did this happen? What have I done? Is this my fault?”
Despite these moments of uncertainty, Dion has chosen to face her challenges head-on. She explains, “The way I see it, I have two choices. Either I train like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off and it’s over. I stay at home, listen to my songs, stand in front of my mirror, and sing to myself.”
The singer has opted for the former, dedicating herself to a rigorous regimen of athletic, physical, and vocal therapy sessions five days a week to aid her recovery. While taking things one day at a time, Dion has set her sights on ambitious goals, such as seeing the Eiffel Tower again and embarking on another tour.
“There’s one thing that will never stop, and that’s the will.” The passion is there. It’s the dream. It’s the determination,” Dion declares empoweringly.
Dion’s sister previously disclosed that the autoimmune disorder, for which Dion received a diagnosis in 2022, can sometimes render her completely immobile. However, Dion has persevered, making appearances at NHL games and even presenting Taylor Swift with the Album of the Year award at the Grammys.
