Delta Flight Returns to Boston After ‘Smoky Odor’ Detected in Cabin

Date:

A Delta Air Lines flight bound for New Orleans made an emergency return to Boston Logan International Airport on Sunday morning after a “smoky odor” was detected in the cabin shortly after takeoff, airline officials confirmed.

Delta Flight 1398, an Airbus A220 carrying 92 passengers and crew, had just departed for Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport when the crew reported fumes in both the flight deck and cabin, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The flight crew immediately declared an emergency to receive priority clearance from air traffic control, and the aircraft safely returned to Boston at approximately 9:35 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Delta stated that it is working to accommodate passengers and ensure they reach their destination “as quickly and safely as possible.”

The FAA has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the fumes.
