Eminem Unveils 12th Studio Album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace)” with True-Crime Inspired Trailer

Date:

Detroit rap icon Eminem surprised fans just before taking the stage to kick off the NFL Draft in his hometown by announcing his highly-anticipated 12th studio album.

The 51-year-old rapper, born Marshall Mathers, shared a teaser on social media and during the draft coverage on ESPN, revealing the album’s title as “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace).”

The announcement came in the form of a true-crime style promo, reminiscent of the popular 80s and 90s series “Unsolved Mysteries.”

Eminem discovered 50 Cent 20 years ago.

The fictional show, titled “Detroit Murder Files,” featured a trench-coat-wearing announcer stating, “Through his complex and oft-criticized tongue-twisting rhymes, the blonde anti-hero named Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies.”

The promo included an interview with rapper 50 Cent, who was discovered by Eminem over two decades ago and signed to his Shady Records label.

“He’s not a friend. He’s a psychopath,” 50 Cent said in the promo before taking a deep breath to calm himself.

The announcer continued, “The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately lead to his demise,” as the promo showed gruesome crime scene images of Slim Shady laying prone on top of a car with a knife sticking out of his chest.

A disguised person, later revealed to be Eminem himself, asked, “Who killed Slim Shady?”

While no concrete release date was given, Eminem’s website now features links to pre-save the album on Spotify or pre-add it on Apple Music.

“The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace)” will be Eminem’s first album since “Music to be Murdered By,” which he released by surprise in January 2020.

The album announcement comes just over a month after Dr. Dre, who discovered Eminem, hinted at a new album during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

Dre revealed that he has songs on the album and described it as “fire.”

Fans eagerly await the release of “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace)” as Eminem continues to push boundaries and solidify his status as one of the most influential rappers of all time.
