Madrid, Spain, July 2024 – Spain joined thousands of fans in a jubilant celebration through the streets of Madrid on Monday, marking their Euro 2024 triumph.
Spain clinched their record fourth European title by defeating England 2-1 in Berlin on Sunday. After landing back home, the victorious squad was received by King Felipe VI, who attended the game, at the Zarzuela Palace.
King Felipe’s daughters, Crown Princess Leonor, 18, and Infanta SofĂa, 17, showed their support by wearing national team jerseys, donning the number 10 of Leipzig’s Dani Olmo. The King expressed his gratitude to the footballers, thanking them for the joy they had brought to the country.
The team then proceeded to Moncloa Palace to meet with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. Sánchez had expressed his pride on X, writing, “Proud of the players. Proud of the team. Proud of the country.”
Coach Luis de La Fuente and his players paraded through the city in an open-top vehicle, heading to the Palacio de Comunicaciones, where a grand celebration with fans extended into the evening. Tens of thousands of cheering supporters, many having waited since midday in over 30-degree temperatures, lined the streets to join in the festivities.
