Imo State, Nigeria (BN24) — A coordinated attack by unknown gunmen on Thursday left at least seven people dead and several others injured in a violent raid on three communities in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State.

Authorities confirmed that the assailants struck the communities of Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakuwata Uno in Arondizuogu early July 25, opening fire indiscriminately on residents. Disturbing footage circulated on social media showed the lifeless bodies of victims lying on blood-soaked streets, prompting outrage and fear across the region.
In a statement issued by the Imo State Police Command, Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma condemned the incident, calling the assault “barbaric, inhumane, and totally unacceptable.” He added that law enforcement personnel had already been deployed to the affected areas to restore calm and pursue those responsible.
“We have dispatched tactical and intelligence units to comb the entire Arondizuogu axis and surrounding communities,” Danjuma said. “The situation is under control, and our priority remains the protection of lives and property.”
Police also reassured the public that proactive security strategies are now in place to prevent further violence. The commissioner offered condolences to the families of the victims and expressed hope for the swift recovery of the injured.
“Our hearts are with those who lost loved ones,” Danjuma stated. “We pray for the peaceful repose of the deceased and stand with the families during this trying time.”
The Command is urging the public to remain calm and vigilant. Authorities called on anyone with information relevant to the investigation to contact the police through emergency lines at 08034773600 or 08103341610, pledging full confidentiality.
The incident marks another grim chapter in the wave of violence plaguing parts of Nigeria’s southeast, where attacks by unidentified armed groups have increased in frequency and severity.
