The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have reported significant progress in their operations in the Gaza City neighborhood of Shejaia, successfully neutralizing numerous terrorists and destroying terror infrastructure. In a statement released Saturday morning, the IDF detailed several engagements that took place over the past day, highlighting their efforts to prevent Hamas from reestablishing a foothold in the area.
In a notable incident, combat teams from the 7th Brigade and the Paratroopers Brigade, operating under the 98th Division, successfully repelled an attempted ambush by Hamas terrorists. The IDF reported that all terrorists involved in the attack were eliminated without any Israeli casualties.
Throughout Shejaia, Israeli forces engaged multiple armed terrorist squads, destroying both above-ground and underground weapons caches and infrastructure. An airstrike also eliminated three terrorists armed with RPGs in a separate operation.
The IDF’s activities extended to other parts of Gaza. In Rafah, in southern Gaza, several terror squads were neutralized, including one targeted by an airstrike after firing upon Israeli troops.
A particularly concerning discovery was made in the central Gaza city of Deir al Balah, where Hamas had embedded a rocket launcher in a humanitarian area near civilian shelters. The IDF emphasized that it took extensive precautions to minimize civilian impact when targeting this launcher, including issuing pre-warnings and relying on real-time intelligence for a precision strike.
In Shejaia, the IDF uncovered evidence of Hamas attempting to reestablish its presence in the area. Troops discovered subterranean tunnel shafts containing weapons, including long-range rockets. The military also located and destroyed buried explosive charges, further indicating Hamas’s efforts to fortify its position in the neighborhood.
These operations underscore the ongoing challenges faced by the IDF in its mission to dismantle Hamas’s military capabilities while striving to minimize civilian casualties. The discovery of weapons in civilian areas highlights the complex nature of urban warfare in Gaza and the tactics employed by Hamas that endanger local populations.
As the conflict continues, the IDF’s focus on precision operations and efforts to uncover and destroy terrorist infrastructure remains a key component of Israel’s strategy in Gaza.
