Irish police have arrested four men following the seizure of cannabis with an estimated street value of €8.5 million (£7.1 million) during a planned operation in Dublin.
The Garda Síochána intercepted two vehicles and conducted a search of business premises in the Ballymount area of Tallaght shortly after 15:00 local time. The operation uncovered 429kg (946lb) of cannabis.
Four men, aged 31, 45, 52, and 58, were arrested on suspicion of facilitating and enhancing a criminal organization to commit drug trafficking offenses. They are currently being held at various Garda stations across Dublin.
Assistant Commissioner Justin Kelly emphasized the operation’s significance, stating, “This operation is another example of our commitment to target the enablers and facilitators of global drug trafficking networks and our ongoing efforts to make Ireland a difficult environment for them to operate in.”
The seizure is part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy implemented by Irish law enforcement.
In a separate operation on Friday, Gardaí discovered approximately €1.976 million (£1.6 million) worth of illegal tablets during searches of multiple properties across Dublin. The seizure included Zopiclone and Alprazolam tablets, along with approximately €4,500 in cash.
Two men, in their 50s and 30s, were arrested in connection with the tablet seizure. The man in his 30s has been charged and is scheduled to appear in court.
