Liverpool vs Ipswich: Preview, Predictions, and Lineups

Date:

Liverpool will aim to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League when they host Ipswich Town at Anfield on Saturday afternoon. The Reds are coming off a crucial 2-1 win over Lille in the Champions League and are six points clear at the top of the league, with a game in hand over their title rivals.

The victory over Brentford last weekend was secured by a dramatic stoppage-time brace from Darwin Núñez, keeping Liverpool’s momentum intact after Arsenal’s recent slip-up. The Reds have won four of their last five matches across all competitions, and they remain unbeaten in their Champions League group stage, securing automatic progression to the knockout rounds.

Ipswich, on the other hand, has struggled since the season opener against Liverpool, where they suffered a 2-0 defeat. The Tractor Boys are currently in 18th place in the league after a disappointing 6-0 loss to Manchester City last weekend. They have struggled defensively this season and will face a tough challenge at Anfield.

Liverpool will be without midfielder Curtis Jones, who sustained an injury during the midweek Champions League win against Lille. Diogo Jota, recovering from injury, is also unavailable and will miss several weeks. Joe Gomez is sidelined with a hamstring injury, and Jota is expected to return before Gomez.

For Ipswich, they made a late signing this week, bringing in Julio Enciso on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion. Enciso could make his debut for Ipswich, alongside fellow January recruit Jaden Philogene, who made an appearance from the bench last weekend. However, Ipswich will be without key players Conor Chaplin and Sammie Szmodics, and striker Chiedozie Ogbene is out for the rest of the season.

Given Ipswich’s recent struggles, especially after their heavy loss to Manchester City, Liverpool is likely to dominate the game. The Reds are the Premier League’s top scorers this season, and Ipswich has conceded significantly more goals than many of their rivals. Despite some defensive lapses in recent matches, Liverpool’s attacking depth should be too much for Ipswich, especially with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo leading the charge. While Ipswich could be dangerous on the counter-attack with Liam Delap, Liverpool should comfortably secure the three points on Saturday.

Prediction: Liverpool 4-1 Ipswich
