Josue Antonio Gurrola, a 39-year-old man from Hutto, Texas, was sentenced to 99 years in prison on Tuesday following a three-day trial for the sexual assault of a child. The Williamson County District Attorney’s Office announced the sentencing, which comes after Gurrola reportedly raped and assaulted a 14-year-old victim multiple times in early 2021.
According to authorities, the victim, who knew and trusted Gurrola, confided in her mother about the assaults. The mother then contacted the Hutto Police Department, leading to an interview between the victim and the Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center.
Gurrola was arrested on unrelated charges in Round Rock on October 4, 2021, and was subsequently taken to the Williamson County Jail.
District Attorney Shawn Dick praised the victim for her bravery in coming forward and commended the work of the prosecutors and investigators involved in the case. “The jury’s verdict of 99 years is a testament to the severity of the crime committed and the enduring impact on the victim’s life,” Dick stated. “We hope this sentence brings solace to the victim and serves as a stern warning to those who would perpetrate such heinous acts in our community.”
Dick also emphasized his office’s commitment to seeking justice for survivors and their families, ensuring that those who commit such reprehensible acts are held accountable for their actions.
The lengthy prison sentence handed down to Gurrola underscores the seriousness with which the justice system views crimes against children, particularly those involving sexual assault. The verdict sends a strong message that such offenses will not be tolerated and that perpetrators will face severe consequences for their actions.
The case also highlights the importance of support systems for victims of sexual assault, including the role of advocacy centers and law enforcement in providing resources and assistance to those who have experienced trauma. By working together, communities can create an environment where survivors feel empowered to come forward and seek justice, ultimately leading to a safer society for all.
