The prominent Cole family of Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria, has publicly denounced the recent traditional marriage ceremony between their son, Taiwo, and popular Nollywood actress and comedian, Wofai Ewa.
The union, which took place in Ugep, Cross River State, has sparked controversy as the Cole family claims they were unaware of the marriage plans and did not grant their consent or support.
The family patriarch, Kunle Cole, released a viral statement announcing their dissociation from the union. This serves to notify all acquaintances, family, and friends that the Cole family of Victoria Island, Lagos, is not aware of any marriage ceremony of our son, Taiwo Olakitan Cole; neither did we grant permission nor support in this regard,” the statement read.
The family further emphasized that they do not recognize or accept anyone claiming to be a new member of the Cole heritage through this purported marriage.
They urged the public to disregard all publications and documents circulating about the event.
The rebuke comes after images and videos surfaced online showing Taiwo participating in what appeared to be a traditional marriage ceremony with Wofai Ewa, who hails from Ugep in Cross River State.
Despite the family’s disapproval, the newlyweds, Wofai and Taiwo, took to their Instagram pages on Saturday to share photos from their special day.
In one of the posts, Wofai expressed her joy, writing, “I found my happily ever after, and I said yes!! Chai !! Love is sweet. Thank you guys for all the love and messages.”
Wofai Ewa, a popular figure on Instagram with over a million followers, is known for her talents as a chef, actress, and comedian in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
The controversy surrounding this high-profile marriage has sparked discussions about family dynamics, societal expectations, and the challenges faced by celebrities in their personal lives.
