Nigerian Father Assaults Teacher for Allegedly Beating His Daughter

Date:

A Nigerian father, Muhammed Jimeta, sparked a crisis at Aces Nursery Primary and Secondary School in Abuja when he physically assaulted a teacher, Sekinat Adedeji, for allegedly beating his daughter, Karima Jimeta. The incident took place on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

Sekinat Adedeji, who teaches Karima Jimeta in basic three, recounted her ordeal, stating that she was holding her three-month-old baby when Jimeta assaulted her. According to Adedeji, she had used a small ruler on Karima’s leg as a disciplinary measure when the student and others were disturbing the class and were asked to kneel. Karima had also reportedly insulted the teacher by giving her “wanka,” a disrespectful gesture in Hausa culture.

Adedeji claimed that around 4 pm, when Karima’s father came to pick her up from school, he slapped the teacher four times in response to his daughter’s report of the earlier incident. The teacher also mentioned that Karima is not serious about her studies and has a habit of insulting teachers who come to the class.

Magdalene Ukuedojor, a parent who witnessed the assault, alleged that Karima has a history of insulting everyone and that the father had no justification for laying hands on a nursing mother and his child’s teacher. Ukuedojor described the incident, stating that Jimeta beat Adedeji while she was carrying her three-month-old baby in front of young children. Despite other teachers kneeling and begging him to stop, Jimeta continued his attack, forcing Adedeji to run and leave the classroom. The teacher was left with a swollen face and had even urinated on herself due to the shock of the assault.

When contacted, Jimeta claimed that the teacher had been assaulting his child for weeks. He stated that he had previously discussed the issue with the school management, but Adedeji had allegedly continued to beat his daughter, leaving marks and blood on her legs. Jimeta admitted that the teacher’s actions had driven him to a state of anger.

The school owner, Aminu Kani, did not respond to inquiries by PUNCH Online when contacted regarding the incident.

The assault on a teacher by a parent has raised concerns about the safety of educators and the need for proper communication channels between parents and school authorities to address disciplinary issues. The incident also highlights the importance of maintaining a respectful and non-violent approach when dealing with conflicts in an educational setting.
