A devastating crash in Palm Beach County, Florida has claimed the lives of nine family members, including six children, after their SUV flipped into a canal on Monday evening. The tragedy has shocked the community and raised serious questions about vehicle safety practices.

Nine family members including six children were tragically killed in a horror crash in Palm Beach County, Florida on Monday

The victims, identified as Pamela Wiggins (56), Leiana Alyse Hall (30), Anyia Monique Lee Tucker (21), Imani Hall (8), Kamdien Edwards (5), Yasire Smith (5), Zaire Mack (3), and Naleia Tucker (1), were traveling in a 2023 Ford Explorer when the accident occurred around 7:30 pm. Jorden Hall (26) remains the sole survivor, currently in critical condition at a West Palm Beach hospital.

Police said the family were all riding in an SUV together when the driver missed a corner and smashed into a guardrail, which flipped the vehicle into a nearby canal

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office crash report, obtained by WPTV, none of the ten occupants were using “safety equipment” inside the vehicle. This revelation has highlighted a critical oversight, as Florida law mandates the use of seatbelts for all passengers and booster seats for children under five.

The accident unfolded when the driver, Pamela Wiggins, failed to navigate a corner and collided with a guardrail, causing the SUV to overturn and plunge into a nearby canal. First responders arrived to find only the vehicle’s wheels visible above water. Four family members were pronounced dead at the scene, while five others succumbed to their injuries at local hospitals.

The family had gathered in Florida to celebrate Wiggins’ mother’s 80th birthday, adding a poignant layer to the tragedy. Tributes have poured in from friends and relatives, painting a picture of a close-knit family torn apart by the accident.

Anntainette Edwards, mother of 5-year-old victim Kamdien, described her son as “cheerful, funny, not scared of nothing, a daredevil.” The child was eagerly anticipating starting kindergarten.

The incident has sparked discussions about vehicle safety and the importance of following traffic laws. Experts emphasize that proper use of seatbelts and child restraints can significantly reduce fatalities in accidents of this nature.
