The 2024 Met Gala kicked off spectacularly on Monday evening in New York City, with co-chairs Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya stealing the spotlight on the red carpet.

The star-studded event, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, celebrated the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” with the dress code “The Garden of Time.”

Jennifer Lopez, 54, made a stunning entrance in a shimmering, see-through Schiaparelli gown adorned with jewels.

The silver strapless dress featured a unique wing-style neckline, which Lopez complemented with a statement diamond Tiffany & Co. necklace boasting over 20 carats of diamonds and a total of 75 carats.

Her ensemble was completed with an array of Tiffany & Co. jewels, including earrings, a bracelet, and rings from the Blue Book 2024: Tiffany Celeste Collection.

Zendaya, 27, turned heads in a custom Maison Margiela gown designed by John Galliano. The blue and green creation was embellished with branch and fruit accents, and the actress accessorized with a Bulgari necklace and a striking veiled hat.

Zendaya’s dramatic eye makeup, thinned brows, and dark lipstick added to her captivating look, which also featured a faux bird over one shoulder and a large feather in her hat.

Other notable attendees included Lily James in a pale pink and black floral Erdem gown with a 13-foot train, Ashley Graham in a busty black sequin dress with floral accents, and La La Anthony in a unique mermaid-style black and red dress with a rose closeup at the bottom and lace detailing.

Gwendoline Christie opted for a red and black ensemble, while Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky arrived early, with Hemsworth in a cream Tom Ford suit and Pataky in a gold ensemble.

The Met Gala, which falls on the first Monday in May every year, is a fundraising event for the Costume Institute.

This year’s exhibition will showcase approximately 250 items from the institute’s permanent collection, many of which are too fragile to be worn again.

The pieces will be displayed using elements such as AI and CGI, playing up themes of land, sea, and sky.

“It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion,” said Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute, of the upcoming exhibition. “One thing I hope this show will activate is that sensorial appreciation of fashion.”

The event, co-chaired by Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth, with honorary chairs Jonathan Anderson and Shou Zi Chew, is expected to draw a star-studded crowd, including the Kardashians, Blake Lively, Hailey Bieber, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Timothee Chalamet.
