Early Wednesday morning, rapper Nelly was arrested in St. Louis on charges of possessing ecstasy pills and not having insurance, as reported by the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP).
Cornell Haynes II, known by his stage name Nelly and famous for his hit “Hot in Herre,” was taken into custody at 4:45 a.m. The 49-year-old artist was charged with possessing four ecstasy pills, a controlled substance, and for not having insurance, according to MSHP records.
Following his arrest, Nelly was transferred to the Maryland Heights Police Department. There, he was arrested on an outstanding failure to appear warrant related to a traffic charge in the St. Louis suburb, as confirmed by the department in a statement to NBC News on Wednesday.
MSHP records indicate that Nelly was released from custody at the Maryland Heights Police Department later the same day.
