Berlin, Germany, July 2024 – Spain completed a double swoop in the Euro 2024 individual awards, with Rodri winning the Player of the Tournament prize and Lamine Yamal taking home the Young Player of the Tournament award.
Luis de la Fuente’s side were the best team from start to finish this summer, and few can have any complaints about their success in Germany.
Manchester City midfielder Rodri continued his ruthless run of glory with an unbeaten summer that threatened to fall at the final hurdle when he was substituted at halftime in the final against England, likely due to injury.
Missing the all-important final 45 minutes did his reputation no harm, however, as Rodri got his hands on the Player of the Tournament prize when all was said and done.
Yamal had been among the favorites to win the overall individual award but was always likely to get his hands on the Young Player of the Tournament trophy. The teenager, who broke Pelé’s record as the youngest male scorer in a major tournament final, dazzled throughout the tournament and ended the tournament with a cool four assists to go along with his stunning strike in the semifinal against Spain.
Truthfully, there were a number of Spanish players who were deserving of recognition after their roles in this impressive campaign.
