Small Plane Crashes into Oregon Neighborhood, Sparking Fires and Power Outages

A small plane crashed into a residential neighborhood in Fairview, Oregon on Saturday morning, setting homes ablaze and leaving thousands without power, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed to media outlets that a twin-engine Cessna 421C crashed near Troutdale Airport in Oregon around 10:30 am PT. The number of people on board and the extent of any injuries remain unknown at this time.

Video footage shared on social media showed plumes of smoke rising over the area as flames engulfed affected homes.

Multiple emergency services responded to the incident, including crews from Gresham Fire, Portland Fire, Portland Airport Fire, and the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. The Port of Portland sent a crash vehicle and battalion chief to support at the scene, with the Gresham Fire Department taking charge of the operation.

“Port of Portland Fire has sent a crash vehicle and battalion chief for support at the scene, and the Gresham Fire Department is the agency in charge,” The Port of Portland said in a statement shared with local media.

The Portland General Electric Outage map indicated that thousands of residents in the area were left without power following the crash.

The Cessna 421C, also known as the Golden Eagle, is a twin-engine plane that typically requires one pilot and can seat up to six passengers.
