Super Bowl Champion Jacoby Jones Dead at 40; Baltimore Ravens Legend Found at His Home in New Orleans

New Orleans, Louisiana, July 2024 – Super Bowl champion and former Baltimore Ravens star Jacoby Jones has died at the age of 40. Tributes have poured in for the former wide receiver, who gained additional fame through his participation in “Dancing with the Stars.” The news was first reported by the Baltimore Sun.

No official cause of death has been announced. However, the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) released a statement on behalf of his family, confirming that Jones “passed away peacefully at his home in New Orleans.”

Former teammates and sports figures have expressed their condolences and shared fond memories of Jones. JJ Watt took to social media platform X, writing: “Jacoby was one of the most fun-loving teammates and people I’ve ever been around. Always dancing and laughing, with a permanent smile on his face. Gone far, far too soon.”

Sports commentator Pat McAfee also paid tribute: “Jacoby Jones was an absolute legend. He was beloved by literally everybody he met and lit up every room he walked into.”

Jones reportedly died overnight at his home in New Orleans, just three days after his 40th birthday. He is survived by one teenage son, named Coby.

The news of his death was confirmed shortly before midday, when the NFL tweeted: “The NFL is heartbroken to hear of the passing of Super Bowl champion Jacoby Jones. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh released a heartfelt statement: “I loved Jacoby Jones. We all did. His spirit, enthusiasm, and love for people were powerful. He was so proud of his son, Coby, and cherished his loving mom, Ms. Emily. They were so close.”

One of the most iconic moments in Jones’ career came during a game against the Minnesota Vikings in a snowstorm, where he returned a kickoff for a touchdown. Ravens fans will also remember his pivotal role in their Super Bowl XLVII victory, particularly his record-setting 108-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Jones’ participation in “Dancing with the Stars” in 2013 showcased his charismatic personality and athletic prowess beyond the football field. He finished in third place on the popular dance competition show, winning over a new audience with his dance moves and charm.

His former teammates, coaches, and fans have been sharing their favorite memories and expressing their grief over his untimely passing. “I’ll never forget the joy and excitement Jacoby brought to the locker room and the field,” said former Ravens teammate Ray Lewis. “He was a true Raven and an even better friend.”

Jones’ death marks a significant loss for the football community and his fans. His legacy on and off the field will be remembered for years to come.
