Tennis Legend Andy Murray Confirms Retirement After 2024 Paris Olympics: “Last Ever Tournament”

PARIS, France – Andy Murray, the professional tennis player, has announced that he will retire from the sport following the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 37-year-old revealed this decision in an Instagram post on Tuesday, July 23.

“Arrived in Paris for my last ever tennis tournament @Olympics,” Murray wrote in his Instagram post. Competing for 🇬🇧 has been by far the most memorable weeks of my career and I’m extremely proud to get to do it one final time!” The post included a throwback photo of Murray on the Olympic podium in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, where he won gold in the men’s singles.

Fellow tennis pro Stan Wawrinka commented on the post, writing, “LEGEND Sir Andy 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️,” while the official Olympics Instagram account added, “🏅🏅🏅 We can’t wait to see you back on court, Andy. 👏.” Fans of the British tennis star also expressed their sadness at his announcement. One fan wrote, “That ‘last ever’ hit harder than I thought it would have. Good luck Sir Andy, it’s been a pleasure watching you over the years ❤️.”

Andy Murray acknowledged the difficulty of his decision, writing, “This is the first post I’ve seen this morning and I can’t lie this is hard to read,” another fan noted. “Last ever is hard to read. What a great privilege it’s been to watch you play. You are the most incredible sportsman and an even better man – what an incredible and wonderful human you are.”
