The Bauchi State Police Command in Nigeria has arrested three men for various child abuse and rape offenses, demonstrating a concerted effort to combat crimes against minors in the region. The arrests span different incidents, each highlighting the urgent need for child protection measures.
In the first case, 50-year-old Abubakar Nuhu, known locally as Wanzam of Gwallagan Mayaka, was apprehended for the inhumane treatment of his 5-year-old son, Hussaini Abubakar. The child was discovered chained inside a room, having been deprived of food for three days. Nuhu claimed he confined the boy to prevent him from stealing from neighbors, acting on advice from a friend.
The second arrest involved 28-year-old Suleiman Musa, who allegedly lured a 9-year-old girl into his room and sexually assaulted her. Musa has confessed to the crime during interrogation.
In the third incident, 67-year-old Bala Mohammed was arrested for luring two girls, aged 16 and 17, into his room, sexually assaulting them, and then giving them 500 Naira. Mohammed has also confessed to the crime.
Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, stated that all cases are under thorough investigation. The Police Commissioner, Auwal Muhammad, has directed the transfer of these cases to the State Criminal Investigation Department for comprehensive inquiry.
