Indiana, Pennsylvania (BobNews24)— A quiet college town turned into the setting for a double surprise celebration Saturday, as members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, also known as Living Spring Community Church, honored their pastor and his wife with back to back birthday surprises.
Pastor Peace Fajebe organized the event to mark her husband, Pastor Abayomi “Yomi” Fajebe, turning 50, without his knowledge. The celebration, themed “Five Decades of God’s Faithfulness in the Life of Pastor Abayomi Fajebe,” was held July 25, three days before his actual birthday on July 28.
Fajebe was told he was attending an event for a church member and had no indication the gathering was for him.
His wife’s birthday follows two days after his, on July 30. She arranged a cake for her husband alone, intending the day to belong entirely to him. Unknown to her, a group of church members separately arranged a cake of their own to celebrate her birthday as well.
After the first cake, prepared for Pastor Yomi, was cut, church members brought out a second cake in honor of Pastor Peace, catching her by surprise in front of the gathered guests. The moment turned the event into a joint celebration for both pastors. Reflecting on the celebration afterward, Pastor Peace said the gesture was rooted in her faith. “What I wanted to show by celebrating my husband is really about reflecting Christ in our marriage,” she said. “Jesus humbled Himself completely to serve us, and even now He keeps putting us first. I’m just trying to love the way He first loved me — selflessly, gently, and on purpose.”
She added that the experience had deepened her understanding of what sustains a marriage. “I used to think date nights and vacations were what kept a marriage strong — and they help, but I’ve learned they’re temporary fixes,” she said. “What really transforms a home is being a disciple of Jesus. When He’s the head, you can forgive anything, love the right way, and find real, lasting joy in marriage. He’s the only one who can truly bond two people forever.”
