A man was arrested over the weekend at President Donald Trump’s Los Angeles area golf course after authorities said he appeared to be monitoring security preparations ahead of a Tuesday fundraiser at the property.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department identified the man as Jeanine John Taele, 38, of Downey. Investigators said he was found carrying a 16 round magazine loaded with hollow point ammunition in his pocket, while a search of his vehicle in the golf course parking lot turned up a loaded 9mm pistol, binoculars and a badge reading “security protection agent.”
Trump was scheduled to speak Tuesday evening at a Republican National Committee fundraiser at Trump National Golf Club, where the arrest took place.

Federal agents conducted a security assessment at the golf course the previous Friday, during which a person later identified as Taele was seen walking the grounds wearing an earpiece and photographing and filming agents’ activities, authorities said. He left the property but returned Sunday, approached federal agents and told them he worked for the State Department and was assigned to a security detail there. When agents learned he had a loaded weapon in his vehicle, they searched it and arrested him.
A subsequent search of Taele’s home in Downey turned up a rifle, additional firearms, high capacity magazines, ammunition, body armor and notebooks containing what investigators described as concerning statements. Officials did not disclose the contents of those writings.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Taele on Tuesday with several felonies, including manufacturing, importing or possessing a large capacity magazine, possession of a short barreled rifle or shotgun, and second degree robbery tied to an alleged November 2025 incident. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle.
Accounts differed on the status of his bail. One report said Taele was being held without bail according to county jail records, while another cited his bail as set at $250,000. That discrepancy was not resolved as of the latest reporting. Reports also said he pleaded not guilty to the charges and was ordered to stay away from the golf course and to not possess weapons while the case proceeds, though the timing of that plea relative to when charges were formally filed was unclear across accounts.
It was not immediately clear whether Taele had retained an attorney, and family members could not be reached for comment.
