The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), the largest assembly of African actors held a candlelight procession in Abuja on Monday night to honor the memory of late Nollywood actors John Okafor, popularly known as ‘Mr Ibu’, Amaechi Muonagor, and Zulu Adigwe. Thespians, fans, and friends of the late veterans gathered at the Unity Fountain to pay their respects and celebrate the legacies of these fallen heroes.
The procession, led by AGN National President Emeka Rollas and veteran actors Kenneth Okonkwo, Zack Orji, and Sidney Idiala, among others, was a heartfelt display of emotions as attendees took turns to pay tribute to the late actors for their invaluable contributions to the Nigerian film industry.
Mercy Salma, FCT mayor of AGN, emphasized that the event was organized to show appreciation and honor for the life and times of the late actors, who had brought joy and laughter to Nigerians and fans across Africa and beyond during their lifetime.
In his speech, Emeka Rollas expressed the solidarity that exists within the actors guild and the profound grief felt by the AGN over the loss of their three veteran members. He described the candlelight service as an occasion for actors to reflect on how they want to be remembered at the end of their careers, highlighting the brilliance, inspiration, and impact that the late thespians had on society through their profession.
Kenneth Okonkwo, a foremost Nollywood actor, attributed the success of the Nigerian film industry to the commitment and passion of actors like Mr Ibu, Amaechi Muonagor, and Zulu Adigwe. He urged young artistes to focus on delivering value and shun the rush for quick monetary gains to make their mark in the industry.
The candlelight procession served as a poignant reminder of the immense talent and dedication that these late Nollywood veterans brought to their craft, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of their colleagues, fans, and the Nigerian entertainment landscape as a whole.
