Barcelona Thrash Real Madrid 5-2 to Win Supercopa de España Final

Date:

Barcelona put on a dominant display to defeat Real Madrid 5-2 in the Spanish Supercopa final on Sunday, scoring four goals in the first half and overcoming a red card to claim their record-extending 15th title.

Despite falling behind to an early goal by Kylian Mbappé in the fifth minute, Barcelona quickly turned the match in their favor. Lamine Yamal equalized in the 22nd minute, followed by Robert Lewandowski’s penalty in the 36th after Eduardo Camavinga fouled Gavi in the box.

Raphinha added to the lead with a superb header from Jules Koundé’s long cross in the 39th minute. Alejandro Balde capped off a clinical first-half performance with a stoppage-time goal, assisted by Raphinha, after a Real Madrid corner went astray.

Madrid started the second half with urgency as Rodrygo hit the crossbar, but Barcelona extinguished any hopes of a comeback when Raphinha slalomed through Madrid’s defense to score his second goal in the 48th minute.

The game took a dramatic turn in the 56th minute when Barcelona’s goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was sent off for a foul on Mbappé. Rodrygo converted the subsequent free kick, reducing the deficit to 5-2. However, Real Madrid struggled to mount further pressure, managing just one shot on target after the penalty.

Barcelona also endured injuries, with Iñigo Martínez substituted in the first half due to an apparent knock. Ronald Araújo stepped in to fortify the backline.

Hansi Flick’s side denied Carlo Ancelotti’s men their third trophy of the season, having already secured the European Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup. The victory marked Barcelona’s first trophy in over a year and highlighted their resurgence under Flick.
