A Florida man was arrested for allegedly dropping a four-year-old boy from a hotel balcony just hours after meeting his mother and offering to “scare him a little bit,” according to police.

Brandon Gilmore, 31, was taken into custody on Saturday after he reportedly dangled the child off a second-story balcony at the Sandalwood Resort in Daytona Beach.

Gilmore told police he met the boy’s mother five hours before the incident and had been drinking by the pool all day, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by DailyMail.com.

The woman supposedly invited Gilmore to her room as they planned to get a piercing later that day. Gilmore then said he was going to take the boy outside to play and “scare him a little bit,” he told police.

According to the police report, Gilmore went outside and dangled the boy by his legs over the balcony. Witnesses said they heard the boy screaming before he was dropped headfirst.

Dasanni Bentley told WESH: “He was just like swinging in, playing with them… And then he let him go, and he had him by one foot. And then the kid slipped right out of him and fell directly on his head on the concrete, no grass.”

The boy’s mother, who has not been named by police, reportedly picked up the boy and took him back to the room. Police arrived at the scene and the boy was taken to Halifax Medical Center. He has since been discharged and was not seriously injured, authorities said.

Police were able to obtain security footage that they say shows Gilmore dropping the boy over the balcony. The affidavit reads: “Officers observed Gilbert carrying the child to the balcony and holding the child by one leg, with his head positioned to the ground, then proceeding to drop him from the second floor balcony.”

Gilmore is charged with felony aggravated child abuse and remains in jail without bail. He has previously been arrested for marijuana possession and for driving with a suspended license, according to public records.

According to him, the era where women were infringed by law is no more. He questioned why women continue to adopt the surnames of their husbands when they tie the knot.

“As old as the 11th century, married women were disabled from performing lawful acts. So if you marry as a woman, your husband’s identity covers you. This was an English custom which continued for many centuries until the 16th century when Christian ideology was used to support it. The Bible says that women should submit to their husbands. Towards the 19th century, legislation was passed to empower women to do the same things they could not do,” he stressed.

He added, “If you want to use the Bible to justify it, you may get it wrong because nowhere in the Bible did we have a woman changing her name after marriage. For example, Eve was never called Adam Eve. Jesus’ mother was never called Mary Joseph.”

The remains of Caleb Chiemele have been recovered from a short-let apartment on the LSDPC Estate, off Freedom Way, in the Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos State, Nigeria.

PUNCH Metro reported on Monday that Chiemele, who had been staying in the apartment since May 12, did not come out of his apartment on June 12. Out of concern, some individuals, including the owner of the apartment, Adewole Olufemi, decided to check on him. Peeping through his window, they found Chiemele lying motionless on the floor.

Realizing Chiemele was unresponsive, they alerted the police from the Maroko Division. The police forced the door open and, upon assessing Chiemele’s condition, determined he had died.

A source, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that Chiemele’s body had been removed and deposited in the morgue.

The source said, “The corpse was discovered around 8 pm on June 12, 2024, at a short-let apartment on the LSDPC Estate, off Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. The short-let was owned by one Adewole Olufemi. He reported to the police that Caleb Chiemele had stayed in his short-let apartment since May 12, 2024.

“But around 5 pm on June 12, they noticed that Caleb had not been seen since the morning and, based on that observation, they decided to peep through the window and saw him lying on the floor in the apartment.”

When the police were informed, they visited the apartment and found Chiemele deceased.
