Hip-Hop Singer Ray J Expresses Suicidal Thoughts Following Altercation at BET Awards Afterparty

Singer Ray J, 43, has shared a troubling social media post expressing suicidal thoughts following an altercation at a BET Awards afterparty. The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, involved a physical confrontation with Zeus Network CEO Lemuel Plummer outside rapper GloRilla’s party.

In a lengthy statement posted to his Instagram Story on Monday, July 1, Ray J wrote, “I’m really at a breakin point,” and “This s–t that is happening is mind blowing. It’s making me suicidal and uncomfortable with the perception of reality.” He cited struggles with the music industry, family responsibilities, and personal challenges as factors contributing to his distress.

The altercation, captured on video and shared online, showed Ray J attempting to swing at Plummer before being restrained by security. Ray J also claimed that BET had locked him out of the awards show, adding to his frustrations.

In his post, Ray J apologized to his sister, Brandy, and made cryptic references to industry pressures, stating, “THEY PAID ME TO SHUT UP AND I DID! I FEEL BAD AND I HATE MYSELF FOR IT!” He also mentioned plans to leave the country.

This incident comes amid Ray J’s ongoing divorce from Princess Love. In April, he responded to her divorce filing with a request for joint custody of their two children.

Ray J’s concerning statements have raised alarm about his mental health and well-being. As of now, representatives for Ray J and the BET Awards have not commented on the situation.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or contact the Crisis Text Line by texting TALK to 741741.
