Plane Crash in Northeast Philadelphia Sparks Explosion, Sets Multiple Homes on Fire

Emergency crews are responding to a plane crash and explosion in Northeast Philadelphia near Roosevelt Boulevard and Cottman Avenue, authorities confirmed Friday. 

Philadelphia police told CBS News Philadelphia that a small plane crashed in the area, igniting multiple home and business fires. Two people were aboard the aircraft, but it remains unclear whether they were ejected or escaped. Several injuries have been reported on the ground, though details on their conditions are not yet available. 

Police sources said debris from the plane struck cars, and fires have been reported at businesses near Roosevelt Mall. Residents in the surrounding neighborhood reported feeling their homes shake when the plane went down. 

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash or the aircraft’s origin and destination. Firefighters and emergency responders remain on the scene as they work to contain the fires and assess the damage.
