MONTEREY, Calif. (BN24) — Three people were found unresponsive early Sunday after a small aircraft plunged into the Pacific Ocean off California’s central coast, authorities said.
The twin-engine Beech 95-B55 Baron, which had departed from San Carlos Airport at 10:11 p.m. Saturday, vanished from radar near Monterey just 26 minutes later, according to flight-tracking data from FlightAware. The aircraft was carrying three individuals at the time of the crash.
The U.S. Coast Guard said emergency responders were dispatched late Saturday following multiple reports of a downed plane approximately 300 yards off Point Pinos in Monterey County. Witnesses described hearing the aircraft engine revving before a splash was heard offshore. Debris from the crash later began washing up along the coast.
Rescue efforts continued through the night, with the Coast Guard deploying both helicopter and boat crews. Local fire departments and law enforcement also assisted in the search operation.
One person was located in the water around 3 a.m., and divers recovered the remaining two individuals from the wreckage between 6:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. All three were reported as unresponsive by the Coast Guard.
“In this case, unresponsive means no signs of life,” Coast Guard Petty Officer Ryan Graves said in a statement. “However, it is the responsibility of the coroner’s office and Sheriff’s office to officially determine death.”
The identities of the victims have not been released. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (BN24) — A Michigan man accused of stabbing 11 people at a Walmart in Traverse City is now facing a terrorism charge in addition to multiple counts of assault with intent to murder, local authorities confirmed.
Bradford James Gille, 42, allegedly attacked five men and six women with a folding knife inside the store Saturday afternoon in what investigators describe as a random and unprovoked act of violence. Victims ranged in age from 21 to 84. All 11 were hospitalized, with six in critical condition and five listed as serious, according to Munson Healthcare.
The Grand Traverse County Prosecutor’s Office filed the terrorism charge after determining the mass attack was carried out with the intent to instill fear within the community. While no clear motive has been identified, law enforcement officials said the nature of the violence met the legal threshold for a terrorism-related offense.
Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael Shea said deputies responded to the scene within two minutes of the first 911 call. By the time officers arrived, Gille had been confronted in the parking lot by several bystanders, including an armed civilian, who helped prevent further harm. Gille was taken into custody without incident.
The FBI is assisting in the ongoing investigation, with agents conducting interviews and reviewing evidence in an effort to determine whether the suspect acted alone or may have had ideological motives. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed federal support for the case, though no links to extremist groups have been established at this stage.
Walmart issued a statement condemning the attack, calling the violence “unacceptable” and expressing gratitude to first responders and community members who acted quickly during the crisis.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer extended her sympathies to the victims and praised the coordinated response of local and federal agencies. “This horrific act of violence does not define the people of Traverse City or our state,” she said.
Gille is expected to be arraigned in Grand Traverse County early this week.

Moments later, Trump steps out of the cart with a club and approaches the ball as though preparing for a shot. The video ends before he swings, but the brief clip has already made waves online, prompting fresh ridicule and accusations of cheating.
“Who needs a foot wedge when you have a personal ball dropper?” one user quipped on X, formerly Twitter. Others joined in, calling the 79-year-old president everything from a “scramble partner for Kim Jong Un” to “Commander-in-Cheat,” with some jokes coming from verified accounts, including one linked to a PGA professional.

RIEDLINGEN, Germany (BN24) — At least three people were killed and several others seriously injured after a passenger train derailed on Friday evening near Riedlingen, southwest Germany, authorities said.
The Deutsche Bahn-operated train, carrying about 100 passengers, was traveling on a 90-kilometer route between Sigmaringen and Ulm when two of its carriages derailed in a forested area at approximately 18:10 local time (17:10 BST), according to German news agency dpa.

KADUNA, Nigeria (BN24) — Suspected armed bandits abducted a pastor and two others on Friday, July 25, in Bauda Village, Maro community, within Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, northwestern Nigeria, authorities said.
The victims, identified as Rev. Anthony Lamba, 50, of ECWA Church in Bauda, Christiana Anthony, and Danlami Zana, were seized while working on a farm in the area, according to local sources.
Security personnel were quickly deployed to the scene following reports of the abduction, but the gunmen had already escaped with the victims to an undisclosed location.
Efforts to rescue the abductees are ongoing, with local law enforcement confirming that investigations have been launched. Kaduna State, particularly Kajuru LGA, has seen a rise in such rural kidnappings in recent months, often attributed to armed groups operating in remote communities.

ABUJA, Nigeria (BN24) — Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a Chinese businessman, an 80-year-old grandmother, and several others in a sweeping nationwide operation targeting major drug traffickers across multiple states.
The agency announced the arrests on Sunday, July 27, through its spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, who revealed the seizure of large quantities of illicit drugs including synthetic cannabis strains like Colorado and Canadian Loud, often smuggled in unconventional packaging.
One of the most high-profile suspects, Liang Tak You, a naturalised Malaysian of Chinese origin, was apprehended at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Friday, July 25. He had arrived from Bangkok via Dubai on an Emirates flight. According to the NDLEA, officers had tracked Liang from his point of departure and allowed him to clear immigration before arresting him as he exited the arrival hall. He was allegedly in possession of two suitcases containing 50 parcels of Loud, weighing 26.10 kilograms.
In Calabar, Cross River State, operatives arrested 80-year-old Grace Ekpeme early Saturday, July 26, at her home on Edet-Nsa Street. Authorities recovered more than 3 kilograms of skunk following intelligence reports linking her to ongoing drug distribution activities.
Elsewhere in Lagos, NDLEA intercepted a commercial bus along the Epe–Ajah Expressway on Wednesday, July 23, arresting suspect Chidi Agbafo with 21.7 kilograms of Colorado, some concealed in moimoi sachets, and 3.8 liters of codeine-based syrup. At the Apapa seaport, a joint operation with Customs and other security agencies uncovered 101 kilograms of Canadian Loud concealed in 202 tins of food labeled “Bean Salad Mix,” hidden inside a container with two Toyota Sienna vans shipped from Canada.
The crackdown extended across several states. On the Abuja-Kaduna highway, Usman Musa was arrested with 71,000 pills of opioids, including tramadol, diazepam, and Exol-5, while traveling to Kano. In Maiduguri, Borno State, a 30-year-old woman, Binta Usman, was detained on Wednesday, July 23, with 30.1 kilograms of skunk. A follow-up operation on Friday led to the arrest of her alleged accomplice, Bala Abdullahi.
In Ondo State, NDLEA officers raided a cannabis farm in the Bending Corner Forest, Idoani, seizing 2,500 kilograms of skunk grown over a hectare and recovering 121.4 kilograms of processed cannabis. Three brothers—Nanna, Chizom, and Maxwell Ozirinye—were arrested during the raid.
Another arrest occurred in Edo State, where operatives detained 26-year-old Bright Sunday Okon in Asakpa Community, Benin City. Authorities seized various strains of marijuana including Colorado, Loud, Arizona, skunk, and methamphetamine from her residence.
Additional seizures included 105.4 kilograms of skunk from an abandoned Honda vehicle in Keffi, Nasarawa State; 6,400 tramadol pills from Bashir Abdullahi in Minna, Niger State; and 113 kilograms of skunk from a drug hideout in Ifo, Ogun State, after a confrontation with the suspect’s gang led to the arrest of Jamiu Omolaja.
In Gombe State, Adamu Adamu, known locally as “Dankyado,” was caught with 10,910 tramadol capsules. In Kogi State, officers intercepted drugs disguised in food items like garri and dried scent leaves along the Okene–Lokoja highway. A follow-up operation led to the arrest of 27-year-old Kindness Bala in Abuja, who reportedly planned to transport the shipment to Katsina before smuggling it to Qatar. Another recovery in Kogi on Saturday, July 26, yielded 23,600 tramadol pills, 300 ampoules of pentazocine, and 700 grams of skunk from a truck at a motor park in Ayingba.
NDLEA said all suspects remain in custody pending further investigation and prosecution.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Kenyan national and lawful permanent U.S. resident was arrested in Buffalo on July 9 after authorities discovered he was in unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced.
The arrest was made by agents with ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Buffalo in coordination with the Buffalo Police Department. Aden Ibrahim, 29, is now facing federal charges as a felon in possession of ammunition, a violation of U.S. law for anyone with a prior felony conviction.
The arrest unfolded after Buffalo police responded to a complaint of an “unwelcomed guest” at a residence in the city. Upon arrival, officers were informed that a man known only as “Beano” refused to leave the home and was allegedly in possession of crack cocaine and a firearm. When police arrived, the man fled on foot but was quickly apprehended. He was carrying a U.S. permanent resident card identifying him as Aden Ibrahim.
Police and detectives conducted a search of the residence and observed a revolver with tape on the grip in plain sight on the bedroom floor. The complainant confirmed that the room, and all items inside, belonged to Ibrahim. Following a search warrant, law enforcement recovered the revolver, ammunition, roughly 26 grams of suspected crack cocaine, and related drug paraphernalia.
HSI Buffalo’s Special Agent in Charge Erin Keegan said the case highlights the importance of coordinated law enforcement in safeguarding communities. “HSI Buffalo is proud to collaborate with our local, state, and federal partners in Western New York to enhance public safety and national security through ongoing targeted criminal enforcement efforts,” Keegan said in a statement. “We are committed to fostering strong partnerships that strengthen our community and safeguard our region.”
Ibrahim has a criminal history that includes two felony convictions: one in March 2022 for criminal possession of a weapon, and another in January 2024 for criminal possession of a controlled substance. As a convicted felon, he is legally barred from possessing firearms or ammunition.
Ibrahim was presented before a U.S. magistrate judge following his arrest and ordered held in custody. He has since been transferred to the U.S. Marshals Service pending further legal proceedings.
