Man Dies Over Fake Bank Alert Used for Drug Purchase in Rivers State, Nigeria

Gloria George’s life was shattered when her 34-year-old son, Horsefall Rowland, was found dead following a kidnapping ordeal. Rowland failed to return home on September 10, 2024, after informing his mother that he had a meeting in Port Harcourt’s Peter Odili Road and Government Reserved Area (GRA), Rivers state, Nigeria.

According to reports from Vanguard, Rowland reassured his mother via phone at 10 pm that he was heading home. However, after he failed to return and became unreachable, Gloria grew increasingly concerned. Her worst fears were confirmed at 5 am the following day when Rowland called, frantically stating he had been kidnapped.

In an attempt to secure Rowland’s release, the family initially transferred ₦30,000 to his captors, who sent threatening voice notes and pictures, warning of severe consequences. Despite further ransom payments, including ₦300,000, Rowland’s body was tragically discovered along Queens/Kings Bakery Abuloma Road in Port Harcourt.

Recounting the ordeal to police on November 1, 2024, Gloria George revealed the series of ransom demands made by Rowland’s captors. She explained:

“When he called on September 9, 2024, around 5:05 am, he said some people had taken his phone and held him hostage. He asked for ₦30,000 to settle them, which I sent. After that, they demanded ₦2.5 million but eventually agreed to ₦300,000.

They sent voice notes and pictures to his girlfriend, warning us that if we didn’t send the money quickly, we should consider him dead. The money was transferred to Rowland’s account, but that was the last we heard from him.”

The Rivers State Police Command’s Special Operation and Intelligence Team arrested five suspects linked to the case: Endurance Thompson (23), Boma Otonye (41), David Ishaku (34), Moses Benjamin (29), and Emmanuel (32).

Endurance Thompson, the primary suspect, was arrested at his hideout in Woji. He confessed that Rowland was killed after attempting to pay for cocaine with a fake bank transfer. According to Thompson, Rowland was a regular customer who owed ₦150,000 for previous purchases.

“I have known Rowland since December 2023. He usually came to buy ‘Charlie’ (cocaine). But he had been using fake transfer alerts. I got an alert, but my account balance didn’t change. He owed me ₦150,000. I raised the alarm, and he was beaten.

Later, he begged me to take him to the hospital. I called Justice, who told me to bring him over. Rowland died in the Keke Marwa that took him to Justice’s place. Justice and Michael later dumped his body beside a bakery,” Thompson revealed.

Rivers State Police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed that Rowland’s body had been deposited at the morgue. She assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects involved in the incident.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s “Wife” Comment at Globe Soccer Awards Fuels Marriage Speculation with Georgina Rodriguez

Cristiano Ronaldo has ignited rumors about his relationship with long-time partner Georgina Rodriguez after referring to her as his “wife” during the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai.

The 39-year-old football legend won two prestigious awards at the star-studded event: Best Middle Eastern Player and Top Goalscorer of All Time. During his acceptance speech, Ronaldo dedicated his accolades to Rodriguez and his eldest son, Cristiano Jr., saying:

“It’s a big pleasure to win this trophy. My oldest son is here, my wife [Georgina] is here.”

This remark sent fans into a frenzy, questioning whether the couple, who have been together since 2016, had secretly tied the knot.

Ronaldo’s unexpected comment sparked widespread speculation on platforms like X (formerly Twitter).

– One fan wrote: “Ronaldo calls Georgina ‘MY WIFE,’ yet people still think they’re not married. You think they’d tell you?”

– Another added: “They definitely got hitched.”

– A third shared: “I lived for the moment Cristiano Ronaldo called Georgina his wife. So happy.”

The couple shares two children—Alana Martina (8) and Bella (2)—and Rodriguez plays a devoted role in raising Ronaldo’s other three children: twins Eva and Mateo (7) and Cristiano Jr. (14). Despite their strong family bond, they have never publicly confirmed their marital status.

This isn’t the first time Ronaldo has used the term “wife” for Rodriguez. Over the summer, he referred to her as such during a YouTube video, prompting his publicist to clarify that they had “no knowledge” of a marriage.

In addition to sparking relationship rumors, Ronaldo addressed retirement speculation during his speech. With his 40th birthday approaching in February, the Al Nassr star made it clear he has no plans to hang up his boots anytime soon.

“In one month I’m gonna be 40 years old, but I’m not finished yet,” Ronaldo declared. “I will continue because I want to win titles, I want to be a champion. I want to score more goals and achieve more with the national team.”

While fans continue to debate whether Ronaldo and Rodriguez have made their union official, the football icon remains focused on breaking records and achieving new milestones both on and off the pitch.

Bukayo Saka Shares Update from Hospital Bed After Surgery, Faces Extended Recovery

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has offered fans a glimpse into his recovery journey following surgery for a hamstring injury that could see him sidelined for months.

Saka, 23, sustained the injury during Arsenal’s 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park before Christmas, limping off the pitch in visible discomfort. Manager Mikel Arteta later confirmed the severity of the setback, revealing the need for surgical intervention.

“Yes, Bukayo had a procedure, and everything went well,” Arteta stated. “Unfortunately, he will be out for many, many weeks. I think it will be more than two months, but I don’t know exactly how much longer.”

After undergoing the operation, Saka took to Instagram to reassure fans, posting a photo of himself in a hospital bed giving a thumbs-up. Alongside the image, he wrote:

*”The majority see obstacles, but few see the opportunities. Recovery has begun, and I’m coming back stronger! Thank you all for your messages #Godsplan.”*

The update has brought a mix of relief and encouragement for Arsenal supporters eagerly awaiting his return.

In Saka’s absence, Arteta has turned to Gabriel Martinelli, deploying the Brazilian on the right wing during Arsenal’s narrow 1-0 win over Ipswich.

On the tactical adjustment, Arteta commented:

“[It was] very different; we will evolve that. In the second half, I liked it more. It will take a bit of time.”

The Gunners are bracing for a challenging period without their star winger, beginning with consecutive away fixtures against Brentford on New Year’s Day and Brighton the following Saturday. They’ll then host Newcastle in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg before facing Manchester United at the Emirates in the FA Cup third round.

While Saka’s absence is a significant blow, Arsenal and their fans remain optimistic that the young star will return stronger than ever to aid their campaign.

Diddy’s Alleged Christmas Prison Meltdown: Struggling to Cope Behind Bars

Sean “Diddy” Combs reportedly had a meltdown over Christmas while incarcerated at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC), struggling to come to terms with spending the festive season behind bars.

Sources close to the disgraced music mogul claim Diddy was overwhelmed by his circumstances, allegedly begging guards to transfer him to the prison hospital for observation on Thursday. The request was denied, according to insiders, leaving him to manage his emotions using meditation techniques he’s adopted while in custody.

“With his top-tier legal team, Diddy fully believed he’d be out on bail by now,” a source revealed. “The reality of being behind bars over the holidays was a nightmare for him.”

Although Diddy reportedly regained his composure after hours of deep breathing, conflicting accounts suggest he remains strong and focused on his defense, even during the emotionally challenging holiday period.

Diddy’s recent court appearance revealed stark physical changes, with the 55-year-old looking thinner and greyer than before his arrest. Observers described his appearance as a visible sign of the toll that three months of incarceration at MDC—known for its harsh conditions—have taken on the once-luxurious lifestyle of the rapper.

Marc Agnifilo, a member of Diddy’s legal team, has highlighted the difficulties his client faces, including the prison’s basic meals and austere environment.

Despite his celebrity status, Diddy is receiving no preferential treatment in jail, enduring the same tough conditions as other inmates. Meals are sparse, with occasional exceptions like a modest Thanksgiving dinner, and the once-powerful music mogul has had to adapt to an entirely different way of life.

Diddy’s legal troubles are mounting, with charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and other offenses leading to his continued detention without bail. His trial is scheduled for May 2025.

Prosecutors allege Diddy attempted to manipulate witnesses and public opinion through social media and other means. Court documents reveal claims that he orchestrated social media posts to defend his image, including a video celebrating his birthday, which he used to gauge public sentiment.

Diddy, who has pleaded not guilty, faces accusations from over 120 alleged victims in both criminal and civil cases.

The allegations against Diddy have brought renewed attention to the darker side of the entertainment industry. Author Elisabeth Ovesen has previously alleged in her memoir that she was pressured into encounters with Diddy, underscoring the widespread claims of misconduct.

As Diddy navigates life behind bars, the man once synonymous with success now faces a battle for both his freedom and his reputation.

Elon Musk Faces Censorship Allegations Over Right-Wing Immigration Criticism on X

Prominent right-wing accounts have accused Elon Musk of suppressing dissent on X after losing premium features for criticizing his pro-legal immigration stance.

At least 14 conservative accounts reported the removal of their blue tick verification badge, which grants monetization privileges to premium users, according to NBC News. The affected users expressed concerns over their ability to continue posting on the platform.

The controversy erupted after Musk, in a Friday night post, labeled some anti-immigration Republicans as “contemptible fools” and “hateful, unrepentant racists,” warning they could “be the downfall of the Republican Party if not removed.”

Critics have alleged that Musk’s actions amount to shadowbanning—a practice where an account’s visibility is deliberately reduced without formal acknowledgment.

Musk, who acquired X (formerly Twitter) in 2022, has championed a “freedom of speech, not freedom of reach” policy. Under this framework, negative posts are not banned but are “max deboosted,” making them less discoverable. Musk previously stated this approach applies to individual posts, not entire accounts.

On Thursday, Musk appeared to double down on this policy, posting on X: “If far more credible, verified subscriber accounts (not bots) mute/block your account compared to those who like your posts, your reach will decline significantly.”

The statement fueled speculation that dissenting voices were being suppressed, particularly among those critical of Musk’s immigration views. Neither Musk nor X has responded to NBC News’ requests for comment.

The censorship accusations come amid a heated national debate on immigration, sparked in part by Donald Trump’s appointment of Indian-born entrepreneur Sriram Krishnan as an adviser on artificial intelligence—a move supported by Musk.

Musk, a vocal proponent of legal immigration, has clashed with segments of the Republican base over the issue. Critics within the MAGA movement argue that his stance undermines American workers, while Musk contends that legal immigration is essential for sustaining innovation and economic growth.

Musk has positioned himself as a free-expression advocate, yet his critics point to instances where he has called for jailing detractors and enforcing policies that they claim disproportionately affect dissenting voices.

The debate over Musk’s handling of free speech on X underscores the broader challenges of balancing platform governance with ideological neutrality, particularly in politically charged environments.

India Bids Farewell to Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with State Funeral

Former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, widely hailed as the architect of India’s economic reforms, was cremated on Saturday following a state funeral attended by government officials, politicians, and family members.

Singh, who served as prime minister from 2004 to 2014, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92. Known for his quiet demeanor and transformative policies, his death marks the end of an era in Indian politics.

The late leader’s body was first brought to the Congress Party headquarters in New Delhi, where party members and supporters gathered to pay their respects. Supporters chanted, “Manmohan Singh lives forever,” as they honored his contributions to the nation.

“He spoke little, but his actions and leadership spoke volumes,” said Abhishek Bishnoi, a Congress Party leader.

The funeral procession moved to a crematorium, where Singh’s casket, draped in the Indian flag and adorned with flowers, was carried with military honors. Soldiers beat ceremonial drums as family members and dignitaries bid their final farewells.

Indian President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were among those in attendance. Modi described Singh as “one of the country’s most distinguished leaders” and acknowledged his pivotal role in shaping modern India.

Manmohan Singh was chosen as prime minister in 2004 by Sonia Gandhi, widow of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, and re-elected in 2009. He is credited with spearheading economic reforms that opened India to global markets and laid the foundation for decades of growth.

However, his second term was marred by financial scandals, leading to the Congress Party’s defeat in the 2014 elections to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

A seven-day mourning period has been declared nationwide. All cultural and entertainment events have been canceled during this time to honor Singh’s memory.

As the pyre burned and religious hymns filled the air, India said goodbye to a leader whose quiet determination left an indelible mark on the nation’s history.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to Undergo Prostate Surgery

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, 75, will undergo surgery to remove his prostate, his office announced on Saturday.

The procedure, scheduled for Sunday, follows Netanyahu’s diagnosis of a urinary tract infection caused by benign prostate enlargement. The prime minister has faced other health challenges in recent months, including hernia surgery earlier this year and a pacemaker implant in 2023.

The news comes as Israel continues its military campaign in Gaza, now in its 14th month, following Hamas-led attacks on October 7, which claimed approximately 1,200 Israeli lives and resulted in 250 people being abducted.

In northern Gaza, Israeli forces raided one of the last operational hospitals, detaining its director. The conflict has led to significant casualties, with the Hamas-run Palestinian health ministry reporting over 45,400 Palestinian deaths, including a substantial number of women and children, and more than 108,000 injuries.

Trump Backs H-1B Visas in Immigration Debate, Aligning with Musk

President-elect Donald Trump expressed support for H-1B visas on Saturday, aligning with tech entrepreneur Elon Musk in a heated debate within conservative circles over immigration policies for highly skilled workers.

“I’ve always liked the visas. That’s why we have them,” Trump said in a phone interview with *The Post*, referring to the H-1B program, which allows U.S. companies to employ foreign workers in specialized fields.

“I have many H-1B visas on my properties,” Trump added. “I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It’s a great program.”

This position contrasts with his first administration, during which he imposed restrictions on foreign worker visas and criticized the program.

Musk, along with other tech leaders, has championed the H-1B program as essential for securing top-tier talent and maintaining America’s competitive edge in technology and innovation. “The reason I’m in America, along with so many critical people who built SpaceX, Tesla, and other companies, is because of H-1B,” Musk wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

His fiery defense came after critics, including MAGA hardliners, argued for stricter immigration policies. Musk pledged to “go to war” on the issue, emphasizing that America must attract the top 0.1% of global engineering talent to remain competitive.

Prominent MAGA figures, including Laura Loomer and Ann Coulter, have called for tighter controls on the H-1B program, accusing it of being abused at the expense of American workers. Steve Bannon, a former White House counselor, criticized Musk’s passionate defense, suggesting it lacked maturity.

Vivek Ramaswamy, slated to lead the Department of Government Efficiency in Trump’s administration, sided with Musk, critiquing American culture for valuing mediocrity over excellence. “To keep winning, America must embrace a culture of excellence,” Ramaswamy said on X.

Trump’s comments highlight an emerging divide within conservative circles over immigration policy, particularly as it pertains to highly skilled labor. While Musk and Trump advocate for the program’s benefits, others in the MAGA movement push for stricter policies to prioritize American workers.

Boys Hunting Rats for Food Ignite Fire, Devastating Ugandan Village

0

A fire sparked by boys hunting wild rats for food left Lonangat Village in Nabilatuk District in ruins on Thursday, displacing hundreds and destroying property worth millions of Ugandan shillings.

The fire broke out at midday when the boys, struggling with the severe hunger crisis in the Karamoja region, set bushes ablaze to flush out rats. Strong winds spread the flames rapidly, engulfing homes, granaries, and crops.

“We saw the fire coming from the bush, and within minutes, it had reached the village,” said Agnes Loli, a resident of Lonangat. “We tried to stop it, but it was too powerful.”

Police and emergency responders were dispatched to contain the inferno, but it had already wreaked havoc by their arrival, said SP Lewis Mugwisagye, the Officer in Charge of Nabilatuk District Police Station.

The fire has left hundreds homeless, with many families now camped along the Moroto-Nakapiripirit road without basic necessities.

“We have nothing left,” lamented Peter Lokol, a father of four who lost his home. “Our children are sleeping in the open. We need clothes, bedding, and food.”

The tragedy highlights the deepening hunger crisis in Karamoja, where extreme food insecurity is driving families to desperate measures. The practice of hunting wild rats reflects the region’s dire struggle for survival.

No humanitarian aid had arrived at the time of reporting, leaving residents without support amid the devastation.

The fire underscores the urgent need for sustainable solutions to Karamoja’s hunger crisis and immediate humanitarian intervention to help displaced families rebuild their lives.

Libyan Minister Meets Syrian Officials to Discuss Security and Military Cooperation

Libyan State Minister for Communications and Political Affairs Walid Al-Lafi arrived in Damascus on Saturday for talks with Syrian officials, focusing on military and security cooperation between the two nations.

At the Al-Shaab Palace, Al-Lafi met with Ahmad al-Sharaa, a key figure in Syria’s leadership, to address the evolving security landscape in the region.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Al-Lafi emphasized the importance of the discussions, noting their timing and the shared challenges between Libya and Syria.

“This was an important meeting, particularly because of the military and security files that connect Libya and Syria,” Al-Lafi said. “We also discussed the broader consequences of the significant events in Syria on the region as a whole.”

The visit comes as foreign and Arab officials increasingly engage with Syria following the ousting of former President Bashar al-Assad. Officials have pledged cooperation on reconstruction efforts and support for a peaceful transition of power in the war-torn nation.
