Six Dead, Five Injured in Early Morning House Fire in Newnan, Georgia

A catastrophic house fire in Newnan, Georgia, a city approximately 40 miles southwest of Atlanta, claimed the lives of six people, including three children, early Monday morning. The blaze also left five others injured, some with serious wounds.

Coweta County Fire Rescue responded to the scene just before 5 a.m., finding the home already engulfed in flames. The fire rapidly spread throughout the house and into the attic, according to CBS affiliate WANF. Eleven people were inside the home at the time of the incident.

The Coweta County Coroner’s Office confirmed the six fatalities, with the victims’ ages ranging from 6 to 70. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the children who perished were aged 6, 12, and 13. The identities of the victims have not been released at this time.

Five survivors, some with serious injuries, were transported to a local hospital for treatment. A Coweta County firefighter also sustained minor injuries while battling the blaze.

The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office expressed their condolences in a statement, saying, “Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss. We ask that everyone please keep the victims and their loved ones in their thoughts and prayers.”
