Hamas Begs War to Stop, Agrees to Accept Israel’s Conditions

0

In a statement released on Thursday, Hamas expressed its willingness to reach a “complete agreement” with Israel, including a comprehensive exchange of hostages and prisoners, provided that Israel halts its ongoing offensive in the Gaza Strip. The Islamist movement emphasized that it would not engage in further ceasefire negotiations while Israel continues its “aggression, siege, starvation, and genocide” against the Palestinian people.

The announcement comes amidst Israel’s persistent offensive on the southern Gaza city of Rafah, despite a ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the top U.N. court, calling for an immediate cessation of the attacks. The offensive, which Israel claims is focused on rescuing hostages and eliminating Hamas fighters, has been met with condemnation from various international bodies and human rights organizations.

Mediation efforts by countries such as Egypt and Qatar to establish a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas have repeatedly stalled, with both sides blaming each other for the lack of progress. Hamas’ latest statement underscores the group’s frustration with the ongoing hostilities and the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza.

“Hamas and the Palestinian factions will not accept to be part of this policy by continuing (ceasefire) negotiations in light of the aggression, siege, starvation and genocide of our people,” the statement read. The group further emphasized its readiness to reach a comprehensive agreement that includes a prisoner exchange deal if Israel ceases its offensive.

Israel has previously rejected Hamas’ offers, deeming them insufficient, and maintains its determination to eradicate the group, which it considers a threat to its existence. The Israeli government has justified its Rafah offensive as a necessary measure to secure the release of hostages and neutralize Hamas fighters.

According to the Gaza health ministry, the Israeli offensive has claimed the lives of nearly 36,000 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip. The operation was launched in response to an attack by Hamas-led militants on southern Israeli communities on October 7 last year, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people and the capture of more than 250 hostages, as per Israeli tallies.

The ongoing conflict has sparked international concern and calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities. The dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, exacerbated by the Israeli blockade and the recent offensive, has drawn attention to the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

As the international community continues to push for a ceasefire and a return to negotiations, the fate of the hostages and the prospects for a lasting peace in the region remain uncertain.

Donald Trump Found Guilty on All 34 Felony Counts in Hush Money Case

0

In a historic ruling, former President Donald Trump became the first U.S. president to be convicted of a crime when a New York jury found him guilty of falsifying documents to cover up a payment to silence a porn star ahead of the 2016 election. The jury’s decision came after two days of deliberation, finding Trump guilty on all 34 counts he faced.

The 12-member jury unanimously agreed on the verdict, which required full consensus. Trump, who was present in the courtroom, maintained a stoic demeanor as the jurors were individually polled to confirm their guilty verdicts.

Justice Juan Merchan, who presided over the case, scheduled Trump’s sentencing for July 11, just three days before the Republican National Convention, where Trump is expected to be formally nominated as the party’s presidential candidate. Merchan expressed gratitude to the jurors for their service, emphasizing their autonomy in the decision-making process.

“This was a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who is corrupt,” Trump told reporters following the verdict. “The real verdict is going to be Nov. 5 by the people. I am a very innocent man.”

The verdict has significant implications for the upcoming November 5 presidential election, as Trump, the Republican candidate, aims to reclaim the White House from Democratic President Joe Biden. Despite the conviction, Trump has denied any wrongdoing and is expected to appeal the decision.

Trump faces a maximum sentence of four years in prison, although similar convictions often result in shorter sentences, fines, or probation. His incarceration would not preclude him from campaigning or taking office if he were to win the election. Polls indicate a tight race between Trump and Biden, with some suggesting the guilty verdict could impact Trump’s support among independent and Republican voters.

The trial, which lasted five weeks, included explicit testimony from porn star Stormy Daniels about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump in 2006, while he was married to his current wife, Melania. Trump has denied the affair. Michael Cohen, Trump’s former fixer, testified that Trump approved a $130,000 hush money payment to Daniels during the final weeks of the 2016 election, amidst multiple accusations of sexual misconduct. Cohen, who handled the payment, testified that Trump approved a reimbursement plan disguised as legal fees. Trump’s defense attacked Cohen’s credibility, highlighting his criminal record and history of lying.

Typically, falsifying business documents is a misdemeanor in New York, but prosecutors elevated the charges to felonies, arguing that Trump was concealing an illegal campaign contribution. Trump has consistently claimed he could not receive a fair trial in his predominantly Democratic hometown.

This case is considered the least consequential among the four criminal prosecutions Trump faces. The charges focused on ledger accounts and records related to Cohen’s reimbursement. Known as the “zombie case,” it was revived by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg after his predecessor decided not to press charges.

This trial is likely the only one to proceed before the election, with the other cases delayed by procedural challenges. If re-elected, Trump could potentially shut down the two federal cases accusing him of attempting to overturn his 2020 election loss and mishandling classified documents. However, he would not have the authority to stop a separate election-subversion case in Georgia. Trump has pleaded not guilty in all cases, framing his legal issues as a political attack by Biden’s allies.

The jury notified the court of their decision at 4:20 p.m. (2020 GMT) and read out the guilty verdicts on all 34 counts shortly after 5 p.m. Fellow Republicans quickly condemned the verdict. “Today is a shameful day in American history,” said House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson in a prepared statement.

Woman Jumps Off Pier and Swims Away from Police After Being Caught Engaging in Public Sex

0

A shocking incident unfolded on Memorial Day at the Naples Pier when a young couple was caught having sex in public, leading to a dramatic escape attempt by the 20-year-old woman involved. According to authorities, the woman, identified as Alyssia Razo, allegedly leaped off the pier and into the ocean in an effort to evade arrest.

Razo and her 23-year-old companion, Zadok Westfield.

The incident came to light when a Naples police officer responded to multiple calls about a man and woman engaging in sexual activity on the pier. One of the calls was made by a concerned mother whose children had witnessed the alleged act. The officer noted in his report that the couple was in an area beyond a locked gate, which displayed “no trespassing” signage.

Upon reaching the end of the pier, the officer found Razo and her 23-year-old companion, Zadok Westfield, in a state of undress and engaged in sexual intercourse. The officer instructed the “disheveled” couple to get dressed, at which point Razo adjusted her swimsuit to cover herself and then proceeded to the edge of the pier.

Razo and her 23-year-old companion, Zadok Westfield.

In a surprising turn of events, Razo jumped into the water and attempted to swim away from the scene. She was eventually apprehended by beach patrol when she emerged from the ocean. Meanwhile, Westfield, who was completely naked, remained at the pier and provided an explanation to the police officer. He claimed that he and Razo had swum to the end of the pier with the intention of jumping off, but ended up having sex before carrying out their plan.

Both Razo and Westfield were detained and booked by the authorities. A witness at the scene stated that she and four children, ranging in age from 7 to 15, had observed the couple having sex on the pier and witnessed Razo’s jump into the water. The witness informed the police that the children were asking questions about the couple’s actions.

Razo now faces charges of trespassing, disturbing the peace, and resisting an officer, while Westfield has been charged with disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct.

The brazen nature of the incident has shocked the local community, with many expressing concern about the lack of discretion displayed by the couple in a public setting. The fact that children were exposed to the inappropriate behavior has further heightened the outrage surrounding the case.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting public spaces and the need for individuals to exercise good judgment and decorum when in the presence of others, especially children.

Judge Acquits Woman Who Stole Squad Car and Backed Over a Chicago Cop Over Insanity

0

A woman who ran over a Chicago police officer with his own squad car after he stopped to help her on the West Side was found not guilty by a Cook County judge yesterday. Judge Tyria Walton ruled that Whitley Temple, 35, was not guilty of attempted murder and four other charges, including carjacking, by reason of insanity.

The bench trial, conducted by Judge Walton, lasted a month due to repeated continuances, although the actual trial proceedings were relatively brief, according to courtroom spectators. As a result of the judge’s finding, Temple must follow a treatment plan.

Prosecutors stated that Chicago Police Officer Ed Poppish was responding to reports of shots fired in June 2022 when he encountered Temple lying half-naked in the street in the 4400 block of West Jackson. Poppish stopped to assist her and radioed for an ambulance. According to officials, Temple got up, repeatedly said his name, and then got into the squad car’s driver’s seat. When Poppish tried to intervene, Temple allegedly told him, “Let me go. This has nothing to do with you.”

Two videos of the incident quickly went viral. One was from a city surveillance camera, and the other, recorded by a witness, showed the squad car reversing and dragging Poppish into another vehicle, causing him to strike his head. A prosecutor described it as “a miracle” that Poppish survived. He required six stitches for a head injury and suffered a concussion.

Prosecutors alleged that after the incident, Temple drove the squad car to a gas station, got out while it was still rolling, entered the station, and then drove away again. She then drove onto the inbound Eisenhower Expressway, weaving through traffic at 97 MPH and still going 76 MPH when she exited at Sacramento Boulevard. She ran red lights, struck five occupied cars, and ran down the block until police arrested her.

Initially, prosecutors claimed that the gunfire Poppish was responding to had been caused by Temple shooting at a bystander, who was not injured.

While awaiting trial, Temple secured a job as a lead accountant at the city’s Department of Family and Support Services. She lost the job earlier this year when it was publicly revealed that she was on trial for allegedly attempting to kill a Chicago police officer.

The attempted murder charge faced challenges from the beginning. Judge Barbara Dawkins set Temple’s bail at $2 million shortly after the incident but expressed doubt that the state had demonstrated Temple’s intent to kill Poppish. Temple’s attorneys appealed the bail amount, calling it excessive. The appellate court agreed, remanding the case to the trial court for a bond reduction. Temple was released on an ankle monitor after a relative posted her $7,500 bail deposit, and the ankle monitor was removed last year.

Three Suspects Arrested Following Machete Attack at Times Square McDonald’s, Leaving One Injured

0

In a shocking incident on Thursday afternoon, a man was brutally stabbed in both legs by three assailants allegedly armed with a machete outside a McDonald’s restaurant in New York City’s bustling Times Square. The attack, which occurred around 1 p.m. near the intersection of 45th Street and Broadway, left the victim seriously injured and sent shockwaves through the iconic tourist destination.

Law enforcement sources confirmed that the unidentified victim was swiftly transported to Bellevue Hospital following the vicious assault. Despite the severity of his wounds, the man is currently listed in stable condition, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the horrifying ordeal.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) responded promptly to the scene, and their efforts led to the apprehension of three suspects believed to be responsible for the machete attack. The swift actions of law enforcement have been praised by local officials and residents, who are relieved that the alleged perpetrators are now in custody.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this time, and investigators are working diligently to piece together the events that led to the violent incident. Witnesses at the scene described a chaotic and terrifying situation, with bystanders rushing to safety as the attackers reportedly brandished the machete outside the popular fast-food restaurant.

The brazen nature of the attack, occurring in broad daylight in one of the city’s most heavily trafficked areas, has raised concerns about public safety and the need for increased vigilance. Times Square, known for its vibrant atmosphere and throngs of tourists, is typically a hub of activity and entertainment, making the machete attack all the more unsettling.

As the investigation continues, the NYPD has pledged to maintain a heightened presence in the area to ensure the safety and security of residents and visitors alike. Community leaders have called for unity and support in the wake of the attack, emphasizing the importance of standing together against violence and crime.

The victim’s identity has not been released to the public, and authorities are working to notify his family and provide them with the necessary support during this difficult time. The McDonald’s restaurant where the attack took place has temporarily closed its doors as law enforcement conducts a thorough investigation of the crime scene.

This shocking incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by major cities in combating violence and ensuring public safety. As the three suspects await further legal proceedings, the city of New York and the nation as a whole grapple with the impact of such senseless acts of aggression on the fabric of our communities.

Madonna Sued by Fans Over Sexually Explicit Tour Performances Likened to ‘Watching Porn Without Warning’

0

Madonna, the 65-year-old Queen of Pop, is facing legal action from an outraged fan who claims he was tricked into buying tickets for a concert that featured displays of ‘pornography without warning.’ Justen Lipeles filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of other attendees of Madonna’s March 7 Celebration Tour show at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.

According to The Blast, Lipeles alleges that the concert started over an hour and a half late and that the venue was uncomfortably hot because Madonna allegedly demanded the air conditioning be turned off. The lawsuit claims that fans were sweating profusely and becoming physically ill due to the heat, but Madonna apparently remained unfazed and even told the crowd to take their clothes off if they were hot.

Lipeles’ lawsuit also takes issue with Madonna’s raunchy onstage presence that night. He claims that he and fellow concertgoers were ‘forced to watch topless women on stage simulating sex acts,’ likening the experience to watching a pornographic film in action. Lipeles argued that “forcing consumers to wait hours in hot, uncomfortable arenas and subjecting them to pornography without warning is demonstrative of Madonna’s flippant disrespect for her fans.”

This is not the first time Madonna has faced legal action over her tardiness and onstage antics. She is currently facing two other class action lawsuits that attack her for her ‘total disrespect’ and her tendency to lip-synch during much of the show. In April, Madonna filed a motion to dismiss one of these complaints, arguing that it was illogical for fans to expect her to start on time.

Lipeles’ lawsuit differs from the others in that it specifically targets Madonna’s R-rated escapades. However, Madonna is internationally known for her provocative performances, which have recently included recreating a kiss with a backup dancer, flashing her underwear on stage, and donning racy outfits while performing sultry routines.

Despite the legal challenges, Madonna recently became the only woman ever to have six tours that grossed over $100 million each at the box office, joining the ranks of legendary acts like The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, U2, and The Eagles.

Lipeles is demanding a jury trial and seeking compensatory damages, including a refund of the tickets or Madonna disgorging all the money she made off the concert. The lawsuit accuses Madonna and Ticketmaster parent Live Nation of six offenses, including breach of written contract, negligent misrepresentation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, false advertising, negligence/negligent infliction of emotional distress, and unfair competition.

As the legal battle unfolds, Madonna has reportedly sparked up a new romance with British boxer Richard Riakprohe, just days after ending her year-long relationship with Josh Poppe.

American Airlines Plane Narrowly Avoids Collision with Landing Private Jet at Reagan National Airport

0

In a heart-stopping incident on Wednesday, an American Airlines plane was forced to abruptly abort its take-off at the last second to avoid crashing into a private jet landing at Virginia’s Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The near-miss, which marks the second close call at the Arlington airport in just over a month, has prompted an investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The drama unfolded just after 10:30 am when the Boston-bound American Airlines flight had been given clearance by air traffic controllers to take off. The plane had already reached speeds of approximately 100 mph when controllers realized that a King Air private jet was landing on an intersecting runway.

Despite air traffic controllers ordering the smaller plane to go around and not land, the private jet had already touched down, according to audio recordings of the exchange obtained by Boston25. In the audio, a traffic controller can be heard urgently instructing, “American 2134 cancel takeoff clearance. Zero, alpha, alpha, go around, go around.”

The American Airlines pilot swiftly responded, confirming that they were “rejecting” the take-off. In a chilling moment, the private jet pilot replied, “Zero alpha alpha, cannot go around, we are already on the ground.”

The FAA has launched an investigation into the incident, stating, “An air traffic controller canceled the takeoff clearance for American Airlines Flight 2134 because another aircraft was cleared to land on an intersecting runway. The FAA will investigate.”

Following the close call, the American Airlines plane returned to its gate, where maintenance crews conducted several hours of inspections to ensure the aircraft’s safety. The flight eventually departed for its destination approximately four and a half hours later.

American said Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, that checking a bag on domestic flights will rise from $30 now to $35 online, and it’ll be $40 if purchased at the airport. (AP Photo/Seth Wenig, File)

This incident comes on the heels of another near-miss at Reagan National Airport on April 16, when a JetBlue plane bound for Boston aborted its takeoff after a Southwest Airlines plane encroached on the runway. In that case, air traffic controllers urgently called out, “JetBlue 1554 stop! 1554 stop!” The Southwest pilot responded, “We stopped. We were cleared to cross Runway 4.” Both planes managed to slam on their brakes just in time, leaving a mere 400 feet between them.

The recent string of close calls at Reagan National Airport has raised concerns about air traffic control procedures and the potential for catastrophic accidents. As the FAA investigates these incidents, the aviation industry and the public await the findings and any necessary changes to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.

Ghana Overtakes Nigeria in Wealth Accumulation and Economic Growth, Says Bismarck Rewane

0

In a recent interview with Channels Television, a Nigerian television channel, Bismarck Rewane, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Financial Derivatives Company Limited, made a startling revelation that Ghana has now surpassed Nigeria in terms of wealth and economic growth. This statement comes as a significant shift in the economic landscape of the two West African nations.

Bismarck Rewane, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Financial Derivatives Company Limited.

Rewane, a renowned economist, pointed out that Nigeria has experienced a decline in its global economic ranking, falling from the 32nd largest economy in the world to the 42nd position. Furthermore, he highlighted that Nigeria has also slipped from its first position in Africa to the fourth place in terms of wealth management and accumulation.

Emphasizing the reversal of fortunes, Rewane stated, “In the past, we were always richer than Ghana, now we are here. External reserves and GDP figures speak for themselves.” This statement underscores the stark contrast between the two countries’ economic trajectories.

In March of this year, Rewane was appointed as a member of President Bola Tinubu’s Economic Management Team Emergency Taskforce (EET), tasked with formulating and implementing a consolidated emergency economic plan. Speaking on the first anniversary of Tinubu’s term in office, Rewane categorized Nigeria’s economic performance into the good, bad, and ugly based on available metrics.

Bismarck Rewane, empirically explains with facts.

Rewane provided a comparative analysis of economic indicators among African countries, revealing that Nigeria’s GDP growth stood at 2.98% last year, while South Africa, Kenya, and Ghana recorded growth rates of 1.93%, 4%, and 3.8%, respectively. Inflation rates also painted a challenging picture, with Nigeria at 33%, South Africa and Kenya at 5%, and Ghana at 25%.

The GDP per capita figures further highlighted the disparity, with Nigeria at $1,111, South Africa at $6,700, Kenya at $2,000, and Ghana at $2,200. Rewane noted that external reserves as a percentage of GDP illustrate a tough picture for Nigeria.

Despite the challenging economic landscape, Rewane expressed optimism for improvement in the Nigerian economy. He pointed out that major policy changes were announced in 2023, including the $1 trillion GDP goal, but the time lag between policy announcements and their effects was a drag on outcomes, leading to unintended consequences and social unrest.

Poverty stricken scene in Nigeria: Channel TV, Nigeria

Rewane highlighted the cost of living crisis in Nigeria and the ongoing minimum wage negotiations as sources of widespread conflict. He attributed the wrong sequencing of reforms to the toll on output and identified both structural and exogenous factors contributing to the economic weakness.

Looking ahead, Rewane stated that Nigeria needs new borrowing to refinance existing obligations and that policy changes, institutional reforms, and new borrowings are expected to lead to positive and faster growth from 2025 to 2026.

The economist also reviewed President Bola Tinubu’s promises, policies, and announcements a year after assuming office, including increasing GDP to $1 trillion in eight years, removing petroleum subsidies, unifying exchange rates, overhauling security infrastructure, doubling power generation, and bringing inflation under control.

As Ghana surpasses Nigeria in wealth accumulation and economic growth, it serves as a wake-up call for Nigerian policymakers to address the structural and exogenous challenges hindering the nation’s economic progress. The path forward requires strategic reforms, institutional changes, and targeted investments to unlock Nigeria’s vast potential and regain its position as a leading economic powerhouse in Africa.

TikTok Star Ali Abulaban Found Guilty of Double Murder, Faces Life in Prison

0

Ali Abulaban, a TikTok star known for his comedy skits and Scarface impressions, has been found guilty on two counts of first-degree murder for the shooting deaths of his estranged wife, Ana Abulaban, 28, and another man, Rayburn Barron, 29. The jury also found Abulaban guilty of the special-circumstance allegation of committing multiple murders, according to Fox’s San Diego affiliate, KUSI.

Abulaban, 31, his wife and friend.

During the trial, Abulaban, 31, did not deny killing the victims but pleaded not guilty, with his defense team arguing that he was “simply out of his mind” at the time of the murders. The prosecution, however, sought a first-degree conviction, which the jury ultimately delivered.

The official verdict, as reported by KUSI, stated that Abulaban intentionally used a firearm to cause great bodily injury and death to both Ana Abulaban and Rayburn Barron. The jury reached this decision after deliberating since the closing remarks on the previous Friday.

Abulaban, 31.

Abulaban, who had garnered nearly 950,000 followers on TikTok, took the stand last week to provide his account of the events that transpired on October 21, 2021. He claimed that “all judgment and reason [flew] out the window” when he saw his estranged wife and his friend together, believing they were having an affair.

Under cross-examination, Abulaban admitted to a history of violence against Ana. Prosecutors revealed that he had been “harassing” her leading up to her death, with Ana even threatening to obtain a restraining order against him. On the morning of the murders, Abulaban confessed to entering Ana’s apartment while she was away, trashing the place, and activating a recording app on their daughter’s iPad, which he hid near Ana’s bed in an attempt to catch her engaging in sexual activity.

Abulaban and his wife, Ana.

Later that day, upon hearing Ana and a man talking together on the recording, Abulaban rushed to the apartment, entered the unit, and fatally shot both individuals. During his testimony, he maintained that the decision to activate the recording app was a spur-of-the-moment choice and not a premeditated plan.

With the guilty verdict, Abulaban now faces life in prison. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, he could have potentially faced the death penalty if prosecutors had chosen to pursue it. His sentencing is scheduled for June 28 at 9 a.m.

The tragic case has garnered significant attention due to Abulaban’s notable presence on TikTok and the shocking nature of the crimes. As the legal proceedings conclude, the focus now shifts to the sentencing phase, where the court will determine the appropriate punishment for Abulaban’s actions.

Former Mayor Charged with Killing Three People in Small South Dakota Town

0

In a shocking turn of events, the former mayor of Centerville, South Dakota, Jay Edward Ostrem, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder for the fatal shootings of Zachary Ryan Frankus, 21, his brother Paul Wyland Frankus, 26, and Timothy E. Richmond, 35. The incident occurred on Monday, May 27, in the small town of Centerville.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, the 911 call came through the county’s dispatch center at 9:44 p.m. The caller, who identified himself as Zach Frankus, reported that their neighbor had fatally shot his brother with a shotgun and that he had also been shot. Shortly after reporting his injury, the caller stopped communicating with the dispatcher.

When investigators arrived at the scene, they observed Ostrem, a 64-year-old former sheriff’s investigator in Turner County, leaving the residence. An officer stopped Ostrem, who admitted to having a gun in his pocket. Investigators secured the handgun and found an automatic rifle on the ground nearby, along with spent shotgun shell casings and at least one spent rifle casing in his possession. The arresting officer noted that Ostrem smelled of alcohol.

Investigators discovered three men dead inside the home. A female family member of Ostrem’s, residing just a few houses away, told investigators that one of the neighbors had come over while Ostrem was sleeping on Thursday, May 23, and the two had consumed alcohol. She alleged that the man had sexually assaulted her. She also claimed that earlier on the night of the shootings, she had informed Ostrem about the alleged assault, and he “got up and went raging out of the house” without saying anything to her.

Ostrem, who had previously worked in law enforcement, was known to have weapons in his home and possibly inside his vehicle. He is currently being held at the Minnehaha County Jail on a $1 million cash-only bond. His initial court appearance is set for 4 p.m. CDT on May 28 at the Clay County Courthouse in Vermillion, South Dakota.

The small community of Centerville has been left reeling from this tragic incident, as they grapple with the loss of three young lives and the shocking allegations against their former mayor. As the investigation continues, more details may emerge about the events leading up to the shootings and the motives behind Ostrem’s alleged actions.
