China Begins Building 621MPH Maglev Sea Train, Set to Outpace Commercial Planes

Construction has begun on China’s groundbreaking 621mph magnetic levitation (maglev) train, which promises to revolutionize high-speed travel by surpassing the cruising speed of most commercial airplanes. The project, spearheaded by China Railway, uses maglev technology to propel trains through vacuum tubes at unprecedented speeds, aiming to redefine global transportation standards.

The maglev train employs magnets to create frictionless movement, enabling it to “float” on air while gliding along a low-vacuum tube. Currently, China’s high-speed trains operate at 217mph, offering 5G connectivity even in tunnels. The new design will significantly boost passenger travel speeds, exceeding 400mph more than existing systems.

The train’s track will connect to Changsha Nan station, extending from the 11.5-mile Maglev Express Line S2. China already operates a maglev line in Shanghai, which links the airport to the city center in just seven minutes, completing the 19-mile journey at remarkable speeds.

Maglev technology eliminates mechanical friction, relying on superconducting magnets to maintain levitation and propulsion. However, engineers face challenges in maintaining stable communication signals at near-sonic speeds. Changes in train velocity disrupt signal frequencies, posing obstacles to consistent data transfer. Vibrations within the vacuum tubes can also destabilize antennas, potentially endangering operations.

To address these issues, researchers at Southeast University, led by Professor Song Tiecheng, have proposed an innovative solution. Their design includes embedding parallel cables along the inner tube walls to emit electromagnetic signals, ensuring uninterrupted communication.

China Railway is positioning this project as a milestone in its quest to develop faster, smarter, and more sustainable transportation. The maglev train is part of China’s broader effort to maintain its global leadership in high-speed rail technology, although other countries are also advancing their systems.

International competitors such as Siemens and Bombardier have collaborated on projects like the ICE 3 electric trains, which currently operate between the Netherlands and Germany. While these trains run at speeds up to 198mph, certain routes allow for speeds above 200mph to reduce travel time.

China’s new maglev train represents the next evolution in high-speed travel, setting the stage for a future where trains outpace planes while offering an eco-friendly alternative to air travel.

Nigerian National Sentenced to 8 Years for Fraudulent Email Scheme Targeting U.S. Businesses and Elderly Victims

A Nigerian national, Okechuckwu Valentine Osuji, 39, has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for orchestrating a large-scale business email compromise (BEC) scheme that defrauded numerous victims, including companies, nonprofits, and individuals across the United States.

Osuji and his co-conspirators carried out the scheme by impersonating legitimate entities in email communications to deceive businesses into transferring funds into bank accounts under their control. These accounts, often belonging to “money mules,” were used to launder the stolen funds or converted to cash for further transfers.

Victims of the fraud included a financial company in Connecticut, a lending firm in Colorado, a nonprofit performing arts organization in Alaska, and a food and beverage business in New York. The scheme also targeted elderly individuals through romance scams, manipulating them into serving as unwitting money mules. One victim, an elderly woman, testified that she was misled into sending her life savings and Social Security income to someone she believed was her romantic partner. The scam left her financially devastated, forcing her to declare bankruptcy and leading to the repossession of her home.

Osuji was arrested in Malaysia in 2022 and extradited to the United States, where he faced trial in New Haven, Connecticut. On May 1, 2024, he was convicted of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft. The scheme caused over $6 million in losses and intended losses. At his sentencing hearing, Osuji was ordered to pay restitution to the victims.

The case also involved co-conspirators. John Wamuigah, another alleged participant, remains in Malaysia and is awaiting extradition. Tolulope Bodunde, also a Nigerian citizen, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years in prison in October 2024.

The investigation was led by the FBI New Haven Field Office and the Stamford Police Department, with assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police and Malaysian Attorney General’s Chambers. The case was prosecuted by Trial Attorney Lydia Lichlyter of the DOJ’s Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney Neeraj N. Patel for the District of Connecticut.

Italian Nun Among 25 Arrested in Major Crackdown on ‘Ndrangheta Mafia

Italian police have arrested Sister Anna Donelli, a 57-year-old nun celebrated for her prison volunteer work, along with 24 others, in a sweeping operation against the infamous ‘Ndrangheta mafia in Brescia.

Sister Donelli, known for her service in Milan’s disadvantaged areas and her efforts at San Vittore prison, is accused of mafia collusion. Authorities allege she acted as a liaison between the ‘Ndrangheta and its incarcerated members.

Sister Anna Donelli had earned public recognition for her community contributions, including receiving the prestigious “Golden Panettone” civic award in February. Despite her accolades, investigators believe she facilitated communication and operations for the mafia. Attempts to contact her legal representation were unsuccessful.

The large-scale raid, conducted in Brescia, also led to the arrest of two local politicians. Authorities seized nearly $1.89 million during the operation.

The arrested individuals face numerous charges, including Mafia association, Vote buying, Illegal possession of weapons, Money laundering, Loan-sharking, Drug trafficking, and False invoicing.

One key aspect of the investigation revealed that the group orchestrated the issuance of €12 million in fraudulent invoices. This scheme allowed complicit businesses to evade taxes in exchange for paying commissions to the mafia.

The ‘Ndrangheta, originating in Calabria in southern Italy, has grown to become the country’s most powerful mafia network. Its influence extends far beyond traditional organized crime, infiltrating white-collar industries across Europe and beyond.

Trump Receives ‘Patriot of the Year’ Award at Fox Nation Ceremony

President-elect Donald Trump accepted Fox Nation’s “Patriot of the Year” award Thursday night at a ceremony that drew approximately 2,000 attendees to the Tilles Center for Performing Arts.

Trump, 78, received the American flag-themed award following Lee Greenwood’s live performance of “God Bless the USA,” the president-elect’s signature campaign song. In his acceptance speech, Trump celebrated his recent election victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.

“We had such a spectacular election,” Trump told the crowd, many wearing American flags and “Make America Great Again” apparel. “I think you have seen more happen in the last two weeks than you’ve seen in the last four years, and we’re not even there yet.”

Fox News host Sean Hannity emceed the sixth annual Patriot Awards, which honored military veterans, first responders, and Stephanie Diller, widow of slain NYPD Detective Jonathan Diller. “Unlike the Oscars or the Grammys or the Tonys, this honors the men and women that really do make the country great every day, unsung heroes and real patriots,” Hannity told Fox News Digital.

The appearance marks one of Trump’s few public outings since his Election Day victory, as he primarily remains at Mar-a-Lago assembling his incoming administration. He plans to travel to Paris Saturday for Notre Dame Cathedral’s grand reopening, following its reconstruction after a devastating fire during his first term.

Appeals Court Upholds 1-Year Sentence for Michigan Teen in Father’s Death

The Michigan Court of Appeals has upheld a controversial sentencing decision for Megan Imirowicz, a young woman who caused her father’s death by attacking him with a dangerous substance in 2021.

The incident began when Imirowicz, then 18, became upset with her father, Konrad Imirowicz, 64, who was too intoxicated to drive her to a hair appointment before her birthday celebration. In a heated moment, she threw lye, a caustic chemical drain cleaner, on him while he was asleep, causing extensive burns and severe injuries.

The attack left Konrad Imirowicz with debilitating injuries, including burns that required extensive medical interventions such as kidney dialysis, a tracheotomy, and the amputation of both legs. He succumbed to his injuries five months later.

Prosecutors charged Megan Imirowicz with the use of harmful devices/irritants causing death, a serious offense.

Despite sentencing guidelines that recommended a minimum prison term of four years, Oakland County Judge Victoria Valentine imposed a one-year jail sentence, citing the defendant’s young age, immaturity, and potential for rehabilitation as mitigating factors.

Prosecutors appealed the light sentence, arguing it did not reflect the severity of the crime. However, the Michigan Court of Appeals affirmed the lower court’s decision, stating, “The trial court provided ample justification for the sentence imposed.”

The three-judge panel further noted that while the injuries and subsequent death were tragic, they alone did not constitute an abuse of discretion by the trial court.

At her sentencing hearing, Imirowicz expressed remorse, describing her late father as her “best friend.” She criticized prosecutors, claiming they had tried to portray her as a “monster,” which she refuted.

Imirowicz had already served approximately 17 months in custody before her trial and was released immediately after sentencing. She is currently on probation, which is set to conclude in July 2028.

Amber Heard Embarks on New Chapter: Second Child on the Way

Amber Heard, the acclaimed Aquaman actress, is expecting her second child, as confirmed by her spokesperson to People magazine.

“It is still quite early in the pregnancy, so you will appreciate that we do not want to go into much detail at this stage,” the representative shared. “Suffice to say that Amber is delighted both for herself and her daughter, Oonagh Paige.”

Heard welcomed her first child, Oonagh Paige, via surrogate in April 2021. In an Instagram announcement, she reflected on her decision to have a child independently, writing, “Four years ago, I decided I wanted to have a child. I wanted to do it on my own terms. I now appreciate how radical it is for us as women to think about one of the most fundamental parts of our destinies in this way.”

She expressed a desire to normalize single motherhood and emphasized that “a ring isn’t necessary to have a crib.”

Over the years, Heard has shared glimpses of her life with Oonagh on social media, offering updates about her journey as a mother.

In recent years, Heard has retreated to a quieter lifestyle following her public legal battles with ex-husband Johnny Depp. The pair, who were married from 2015 to 2017, became embroiled in a highly publicized defamation trial in 2022. Depp had sued Heard for $50 million, claiming her 2018 Washington Post op-ed implied he was a domestic abuser, despite not naming him directly.

After a six-week trial, the jury ruled in favor of Depp on all three counts, awarding him $15 million in damages. Heard was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages for a countersuit claim.

Following the trial, Heard spoke with Today’s Savannah Guthrie, addressing how she might discuss the case with her daughter in the future. “I think no matter what, it will mean something,” she said, adding, “I did the right thing. I did everything I could to stand up for myself and the truth.”

Heard has since shifted her focus to motherhood. “I get to be a mom, like, full-time,” she shared when discussing her plans.

To embrace her new chapter, Heard sold her California home and relocated to Madrid, Spain, where she has adopted a more private lifestyle.

Attorney in Houston, Texas, Charged with Murder After Fatally Shooting Son with Down Syndrome, Burning Body

Michael Howard, a 68-year-old attorney from Houston, has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence after fatally shooting his 20-year-old son, Mark Howard, who had Down Syndrome. Howard allegedly mistook his son for an intruder on their family property in Hemphill, Texas, on December 1, according to the Sabine County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities reported that Howard, concerned about a prior burglary at the property, shot his son, believing him to be an intruder. Upon realizing the mistake, he allegedly transported his son’s body in a tractor bucket to a remote part of the property, placed it on a wood pile, and burned it.

Howard later told investigators that he believed cremation was what his son “would have wanted.” He waited approximately 17 hours before notifying authorities of the incident, first contacting Mark’s mother and then a deputy sheriff.

Deputies, with Howard’s consent, searched the property and eventually discovered the burned remains about two miles from where the shooting took place. Investigators recovered charred bones and body parts, including a portion of the lower jaw, from the ash-covered scene.

Evidence suggests that Howard also attempted to clean the crime scene using a water hose, according to county investigator JP MacDonough.

“It is a bizarre crime anywhere… just because of the nature of the event,” MacDonough said, adding that he believes Howard’s actions were “nefarious” in nature.

Howard has been charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence involving a human corpse. He is currently held in the Sabine County Jail on a $20 million bond.

The Sabine County District Attorney, Paul Robbins, stated that additional charges might be brought against Howard as the investigation continues. A grand jury indictment is forthcoming.

Michael Howard owns a private law practice in Houston and has owned the Hemphill property, located 170 miles away, for years. His practice areas include personal injury, real estate, and legal malpractice.

The attorney’s legal history includes a suspension of his license in 1995 during a one-year probation for third-degree felony theft.

Howard has two other children, and investigators have interviewed Mark Howard’s mother as part of the case.

23-Year-Old Colombian Hitwoman ‘The Doll’ Apprehended for Gang-Linked Murders in Colombia

Colombian authorities have arrested Karen Julieth Ojeda Rodriguez, a 23-year-old woman known by her alias “La Muñeca” (The Doll), in connection with a string of targeted killings allegedly orchestrated by a local criminal gang. Among the crimes linked to her is the assassination of her ex-boyfriend in a carefully planned ambush, according to multiple local media reports.

Ojeda Rodriguez has been labeled a “dangerous hitwoman” by authorities and is believed to be a key figure in the operations of Los de la M, a gang operating in the municipality of Barrancabermeja. According to reports from **Libertad Digital**, she played a leading role in coordinating assassinations and expanding her influence by leading a group of hitmen to carry out violent attacks in the region.

One of the most notable crimes linked to “La Muñeca” occurred on July 23 in Piedecuesta, a rural area in Colombia. According to police, Ojeda Rodriguez lured her ex-boyfriend, Deyvy Jesús, to meet her under the pretense of resolving a financial dispute.

Unaware of the trap, Jesús arrived at the meeting point only to be fatally shot in a drive-by attack orchestrated by two men on a motorcycle. Investigators allege that the ambush was planned and ordered by Ojeda Rodriguez, as detailed by **Magdalena Medio Police**.

Ojeda Rodriguez was apprehended alongside two alleged accomplices: Paula Valentina Joya Rueda, 24, known as “La Gorda Sicaria” (The Fat Hitwoman), and a man identified as “Leopoldo.” During their arrests, police seized a revolver and a 9mm pistol, which are now being analyzed to determine whether they were used in any of the recent killings.

“With the capture of alias La Muñeca and alias Leopoldo, a period of calm has been created in the region. These arrests mark significant progress in dismantling the criminal structures responsible for recent homicides,” said Lieutenant Colonel Mauricio Herrera of the Magdalena Medio Police, as reported by **Infobae**.

Bucaramanga, located near the areas where Ojeda Rodriguez operated, has been grappling with high rates of violence. With a population of just over 1.3 million, the city has reported a homicide approximately every three days, according to **World Population Review**.

Law enforcement authorities hope that the arrest of “The Doll” and her associates will reduce violence in the region and disrupt the operations of the Los de la M gang.

Officials have not yet disclosed the specific charges Ojeda Rodriguez and her accomplices will face. However, police are continuing their investigation into her alleged involvement in multiple murders and other criminal activities tied to gang-related violence.

This high-profile arrest sheds light on the increasing presence of women in organized crime networks in Colombia, often taking on roles traditionally dominated by men. Authorities remain committed to dismantling such networks and restoring safety to affected communities.

Capitol Police Arrest Chelsea Manning, Others in Transgender Bathroom Protest

U.S. Capitol Police arrested former military intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning and approximately 15 other transgender rights activists Thursday during a protest of new House rules requiring individuals to use bathrooms matching their biological sex in the Capitol complex.

The demonstrators, staging a sit-in at the Cannon House Office Building, were charged with “Crowding, Obstructing, or Incommoding” under D.C. Code § 22–1307, according to Capitol Police. Protesters displayed banners reading “Flush Bathroom Bigotry” and “Congress Stop Pissing On Our Rights.”

The protest targeted House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) recent rule change and a resolution introduced by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) seeking to ban transgender women from female facilities. The debate intensified following the election of Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-Del.), who will become Congress’s first openly transgender member when sworn in next month.

Manning, 36, previously served seven years of a 35-year sentence for leaking classified information to WikiLeaks before receiving a commutation from President Barack Obama in 2017. Manning transitioned while in military prison.

“Progressive politics is the most regressive threat to women. They just keep proving our point,” said Gabrielle Lipsky, spokesperson for Rep. Mace, arguing the protesters “definitely should have been apprehended” under new House rules.

Family Wins $310 Million Verdict in Orlando Amusement Park Death of Teen

A Florida jury awarded $310 million Thursday to the family of Tyre Sampson, the 14-year-old Missouri teen who fell to his death from an Orlando amusement park ride in March 2022, following just an hour of deliberation.

The civil verdict against Austrian ride manufacturer Funtime Handels GMBH marks one of the largest settlements in amusement park history. “This verdict is a step forward in holding corporations accountable for the safety of their products,” said family attorney Ben Crump. “The jury’s decision confirms what we have long argued: Tyre’s death was the result of blatant negligence and a failure to prioritize safety over profits.”

Sampson, visiting ICON Park during spring break with his football team, weighed 383 pounds—nearly 100 pounds over the ride’s weight limit. The lawsuit noted the free-fall attraction had no seat belts when the teen fell at least 100 feet to his death.

The damages will be split equally between Sampson’s parents, who previously reached an undisclosed settlement with ICON Park and ride operator Eagle Drop Slingshot. Funtime Handels did not send representatives to court, and no attorney was listed in court records.

The tragedy prompted safety reforms, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signing the Tyre Sampson Act in May 2023 to strengthen amusement ride safety standards. The ride has since been dismantled.
